Fleck

The Cadette says Fleck was missing from training today.

If this is true and the rest of them trained, it would seem to confirm that it's not just bullshit, and that Fleck and his agent (obviously) want the move.

I want to say I still don't think we'll sell him, but.... you know.

McDonald drives with the ball.
And fleck hasn’t done that enough this year compared to last , don’t think fleck has been half as good as last year

I saw him play at Bramall Lane and he didn't do much driving. A more languid Coutts with a longer passing range is what I saw. Liked to take the ball of the centre backs and play the metronome. Players also tend to desist from driving with the ball in the latter years of their career.

The price has to be right. Then when its not right, we just accept the offer eventually. :)

But rather than looking for a player who probably doesn't exist within our scouting range and budget, we might be better off simply signing the highest quality midfielder we can and accept adjusting around their style. And quality wise I think McDonald would be very near the top of the list.

I suppose. It all seems to be the height of short termism. Sell young assets and bring in players on their last payday who may or may not work in our system, and wont become assets. A confession: I never liked Mcdonald after my brother was the mascot at the United vs Carlisle game (April 1st 2013). He was the mascot and was allowed in the dressing room and manager's office. He heard Mcdonald talking about a potential move to Wolves with another player. His performances were pretty average that year, and I've held it against him ever since; although the move didn't happen until August.

Whilst Fleck is very important to Utd, I'm not 100% sure he's mid Prem quality, especially on this season's showing so far. Given how much West Ham are spending on players this year, a £4m signing from a Champ club really doesn't make sense.

Agreed - it just doesn't seem to stack up.

UTB

I think he's going. This probably is his last real chance at doubling his money and having a crack at The Premiership so I think he will push for the move and we won't stand in his way. Can't understand it from West Ham's view at all given his form of late but it certainly leaves us well and truly in the shit. No idea where we could get a replacement at such short notice.

Mcdonald is the classic deep lying playmaker/pivot. He's not the same kind of midfielder/player as fleck. If he is going and CW wants a similar replacement, it won't be Mcdonald. 1 player who is quite similar or could do a similar job. Luke freeman.

They didn't train today did they? Sure I saw that in another thread saying Hogan was at Shirecliffe today.

Can't see it still, if he's going Wilder must have someone lined up surely, if he hasn't then the someone's stitched him up and he'll be royally fooked off.

2 days to the end of the window, if he goes and we don't get anyone I think we'll end up playing Dowell there, but then there goes the Duffy cover.

Think to get someone in who could hit the ground running we're talking £10m easy, and probably a troubling wage packet, or an outstanding Premier League loan.

All comes out as not worth the bother. Let him go in summer if we don't go up.

Way too late in the window to be offloading someone like Fleck and the offer is shit too.

Signed up until the end of the 20/21 season, 4 million is an insult really, if he stays we'd be paying him about £1.5m in wages (and bonuses if he has them) so really we'd be getting £2m profit for him which is the going rate for a midfielder going well at the top of league one never mind the championship for the last 2 seasons.

We are in a promotion race for the Premier League. We should not be selling a first team player 2 days before the end of the transfer window for a fee in the region of 4 million quid.

In fact, unless we have a better replacement lined up - and I would be surprised if we do - we shouldn't be selling him at all.

It seems the club turned down this initial approach. Good.

4m as well.

Talk about low ball offer. That's almost underarm!

At this stage it would be far too difficult to replace a key component of the team.

The morons on here and our other boards that are happy with £4 million want their heads looking at. They need to get in the 20th century let alone the 21st
They use Norwoods price as an example

There's one big difference though, Norwood was unwanted, surplus to requirements and unlikely to start games.

There's even some indicating that there is a release clause..........BOLOX, why would a relatively unknown player fresh out of League One and unproven at Championship level insist on a release clause when signing a new deal ?
He'd just be happy to get a new deal after our promotion and not sold back to League One where he'd spent a rather unglamorous career up to that point

If it is true that a Premier League club has shown an interest that tells you all you need to know, and United should immediately place a ridiculous transfer value on him.

Callum Hudson Odoi has barely had 10 minutes on the pitch and Bayern Munich were told £40 million

Chelsea said £40 million because they have the player and they know Bayern have the money, Bayern have now just about matched Cheleas's asking price.

We know West Ham have the money so let's drag it out of them if they want to pursue him

Every transfer window, rumours abound. A lot is unsubstantiated, some is agents stirring things up and some - like this Fleck 'bid' - is teams like West Ham trying it on. If JF does go, he'll be a very wealthy young man who will appear even less on Scotland's radar as he will be way down the pecking order. Thanks to getting a free stadium, West Ham can easily spend £30-40m to ensure they stay mid-table in the PL. And get knocked out of the FA Cup by Wimbledon. :)

It's better not to worry about things that may happen and not recycle the usual 'McCabe', 'Deane/Fjortoft' stuff. Every time a team sacks their manager we have 'Will Wilder go?' chatter.

If anybody is worried about bigger clubs coming in to sign our better players or steal our manager, support Wednesday. They have no such concerns. :D

At the point we signed Norwood i.e. Jan 1st 2019, his contract only had 6 months to expiry.

This seems to be overlooked quite a bit.

If he was fully in contract he'd have cost far more.

Fleck is contracted to summer 2022.

The two signings are completely uncomparable in the context of their contractual situation.

Yes, and that's without even mentioning him being surplus to requirements and about as likely to start a Premier League game as I am

I did think he looked a tad less happy at the weekend while everyone else looked delighted. Maybe he’d been hoping to get the sock rather than Baldock...

Put your self in his shoes. Massive pay. Sets him up for life. But probably won't be a regular.

I just don't see why west ham need him.

But you can't blame Fleck for say yes, if he does.

I’ve said on the other thread, just hope Fleck shows a bit of loyalty and accepts the valuation we have put on his head (whatever that may be). We will likely have to agree to listen to offers in summer for him. That gives him incentive to improve to put himself in the window and also assurance we won’t stand in his way. But on the 29th January it’s got to be a big offer and if he doesn’t get that I’d be surprised.

He’s good for us but he’ll not get West Ham to 6th and they are not likely to go down. Strange transfer if it goes ahead.

Flecks grimace can be explained by the look on Madines face immediately behind him. That's one scary look... "Hi John, heeeeere's Gary!!!!"
