In the Wimbledon game, Cork put them ahead, but them a strange handball by John Fashanu (a long throw into the box and he jumped up and palmed the ball away) gave us a pen which Deane scored. In the last minute, JF did exactly the same thing (clearly shown that the video for that season), but the ref missed it.

Given later events, people made various accusations about what JF was up to, not all of which were consistent with his 100% honesty.
im pretty sure it was mentioned in the court case against him as was the segers performance v everton that relagated us but somehow they were found innocent

I was there on the wimbledon end ( we won on Cork scoring first) and the ref didnt miss it ,but we all agreed that it was so obvious in the context of the game what he was doing ( and this was before any scandals) that the referee chose to ignore it. We looked at the other players reaction because it was so ridiculous and some went mad at him ,but notably a few didnt :(

Football lost some of its magic for me that day.

Well, if we're including the Lane, as a man in his late 40's he missed a lot of opportunities to see us beat them:

6/9/69: W1-0 (Tudor)
27/1/73 W2-0 (Woodward, Dearden)
22/9/73 W1-0 (Flynn)
11/5/91 W2-1 (Agana 2)
9/9/95 W2-1 (Blake, Veart
19/9/98 W2-1 (Marcelo 2)
29/9/01 W2-1 (Asaba, Suffo)
23/8/03 W1-0 (Page)
15/3/08 W2-0 (Sharp, Kilgallon)
10/1/09 W1-0 (Henderson)

Never knowingly out pedanted....

Dazzler, didn't we also beat them at home 1-0 or 2-1 (Bryson got one) in January 1992? Darren Beckford went in goal for them towards the end of the game.

Abosultely right (hangs head in shame).

That was 18th Jan 92. Beckford was in goal when Bryson scored.

Wow SB!! What a great memory, i'm well impressed mate. It was indeed a night match and I vaguely remember one of the goals being a header from a corner at the Lane end.

QPR were a decent outfit at that time but nevertheless, it was the atmosphere that night that got me hooked. I also thought that our kit was fantastic. Without doubt, that era in the early 70's was the best United team I have seen. What would they all be worth in todays game I wonder.
Both goals were in the 1st half at the Kop End

I was at the Wimbledon end too. I believe Fash did them on purpose

First game - Wimbledon away at Plough Lane in 91. Drew 1-1, Brian Deane scored a penalty, I think Alan Cork scored for them.

First home game - Notts County in 1994. We lost 3-1 and were awful.

First game I ever saw us win - Norwich at home in 96, 2-1. Bryan Gunn got sent off at half time and I didn't realise until midway through the second half that they were down to 10 men!

Yeh, Gunn got sent off and Darren Beckford went in goal. Even though we won he had a stormer like Jags against Arsenal in prem!!!

First game was Sunderland @ Lane 1967 I think

Reece broke his leg against Blackpool in Nov 66. Think the Blackpool player was Tony Thompson. we then signed Bill Punton from Norwich

It was Rob Newman that went into goal after Gunn's sending off in 1995. Beckford went into goal in the Jan 1992 match (won 1-0, Bryson scored) after Gunn's back "went"

Never knew that about Newman he kept that one quiet, I'll have to bring that up with him when I next see him!

The Reece broken leg game was on the day I was born - 12th November 1966. We drew 1-1 (Woodward).

Stainrod 2, Speight and Woodward got the goals and famously Stainrod was denied a hat trick as he went one on one with the keeper, knocked the ball past him and turned to celebrate. Unfortunately, what with the downpour, the ball stuck in the mud on the line....

For some reason I remember that well. I don't usually remember much about any game once it's over but for some reason that stuck in my mind.

Ah, i knew he went in goal for one game against us. Cheers SB:)

Sept 1978. Lost 2-0 to Palace. Sat in BLUT. I remember my dad complaining it cost £2.50 to sit in the cheapest seats. I think Imre Varadi made his debut for us. Our goalkeeper (Conroy?) had permed hair.

2-1 win over Huddersfield, Marcelo equalised and Michael Twiss scored a late winner. Michael Twiss was my first ever favourite player. Well for about a week.

Yes, it was Varadi's league debut. His debut for the 1st team was coming in as sub in the River Plate friendly. Peter Nicholas was given the job by Terry Venables of man marking Sabella and kicking him. I think Palace's scorers were Mike Elwiss and Dave Swindlehurst. Palace had a lot of good young players and Kenny Sansom was classy

Boxing day??? Or at least a couple of days after Xmas if I remember correctly.

The only thing Twiss did in a Blade shirt.

28th Dec 98. Marcelo missed a pen (hitting it wide), a Gray og put us one up, Huddersfiel equalised and then Twiss got the winner with a header at the Kop end in the last minute.

I think Vince Hilaire was a handful for them too. Black players were still quite rare at the time.
