Darren - Bent played in the league cup game. He missed a hatful of easy chances....

Now I think about it, you are right, he missed that last minute sitter which would have won the game didn't he?

I remember people walking from the ground at Norwich moaning that he was now out of that game, but they and I were obviously wrong!

Ha ha that's class ! Do you think you could scan some of your drawings and put them up, I'd love to see some of United's goals from the past ;)

Think they're in the parents' loft, and that's like the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, only less organised.....but I'll try!

It was indeed Andy Cole, I have a scrap book in the loft where me and my mate from school drew (yes DREW!) every goal at Bramall Lane that season and I remember that game well!

Beat me to it... would be a fantastic feature for discussion on previous games/events/players :)

First proper game was against Southampton at home drew 0-0 was a dire affair 93-94 season, next game beat Newcastle 2-0 Blake scored as I remember, Dad threw me in the air as I needed the toilet much to his annoyance, nearly cleared half the kop steps down

Boxing Day 1972. Stood on the Bramall Lane terrace to watch us lose 3-0 v Liverpool.

Scorers were Phil Boersma, Steve Heighway (Blades were his boyhood club and I think he went to High Storrs school) and Chris Lawler

Both goals were headers from Woody corners. It was a floodlit games, I didnt know any of the QPR players but a lot of them had tanned skins. Barry Bridges, Terry Venables, Mick Leach and Dave Clements would have played

Wow SB!! What a great memory, i'm well impressed mate. It was indeed a night match and I vaguely remember one of the goals being a header from a corner at the Lane end.

QPR were a decent outfit at that time but nevertheless, it was the atmosphere that night that got me hooked. I also thought that our kit was fantastic. Without doubt, that era in the early 70's was the best United team I have seen. What would they all be worth in todays game I wonder.

My first Blades game was 1966, v either Soton or Arse. My first ever games were late 1950s Barnsley and Leeds. I was born in Leeds

Mine was the friendly against Everton in '82 (missed our goal), first away game was the Atkins winner at Millmoor (missed the goal). Maybe that's why we seem to hardly ever score late goals - it's the football gods paying me back for leaving my first 2 games early.

My lad's first game was v QPR in the FA Cup, Jan 2010. D1-1

About 2001 I think, away at Norwich. Think we lost 4-2 after being 2-0 up but can't remember the score exactly. I've never seen us win at Carrow Road, which is a slight annoyance given where I live :(
mate i've never seen us beat bloody Norwich ever and i'm in my late 40's!! :(.. talk about bogey team.. i remember that game because i thought at the time 'this is it.. we're going to beat them at last!'.. and flopped.. couldn't believe it

21st April 1982, won 4-0 at my local team Peterborough United. Twas a night game with 7,000+ travelling from Sheffield making up the 13,000 crowd. Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time I think of that game.

We won 3-2 there on 7th September 2002. You must have missed it :-)

We also beat them in 1995 at the start of Bassets last half season. it was 1-1 at half time and Brian Gunn got himself sent off in the tunnel. They had to put an outfield player in net.

We then proceeded to have no shots on target until we scored a header about 10 mins from time.

That was at the Lane though.

The only other win at Norwich in recent memory was the 1-0 on 23/4/94, when Blake's goal gave the usual false hope of avoiding relegation.

he never said he wanted to see us win at Norwich, just that he wanted to see us beat them.. /pedant

When we were 2-1 up in the relegation season, after Reid scored that cracking free kick, I thought it was going to be my time to finally gloat at those fuckers.

Cue Holt going down easier than a whore when Monty went near him and managed to "win" a penalty, cheating pig.

That deflated us, we went on to lose 4-2, Quinn got sent off at the final whistle for headbutting someone, and I walked back to the train station with Mark Yeates talking all about it, quite a funny old day!

I vividly remember us "equalising" late on there once, Killa I think it was, and Sharp giving it out large to the Barclay only for the goal to be ruled offside (it definitely wasn't offside either), head in the sand moment right there!

I've seen us beat them at the Lane in recent times, 1 or 2 nil I think, but would love to see us win there, the definition of plastic fans that lot, the bandwagon is currently overloaded!

Well, if we're including the Lane, as a man in his late 40's he missed a lot of opportunities to see us beat them:

6/9/69: W1-0 (Tudor)
27/1/73 W2-0 (Woodward, Dearden)
22/9/73 W1-0 (Flynn)
11/5/91 W2-1 (Agana 2)
9/9/95 W2-1 (Blake, Veart
19/9/98 W2-1 (Marcelo 2)
29/9/01 W2-1 (Asaba, Suffo)
23/8/03 W1-0 (Page)
15/3/08 W2-0 (Sharp, Kilgallon)
10/1/09 W1-0 (Henderson)

Never knowingly out pedanted....

So basically, it was all down to a set of shoddy user requirements, and us reading them in two different ways... bloody users...

i remember the game where agana scored two ,they were the first goals all season in front of the away end and i think there was a roofless kop

also remember a blow up doll being thrown around the kop and a guy dressed up as a wednesday fan (pig nose included ) having his shirt set on fire by some retards on the back of the kop

1-0 defeat at the Lane v Coventry in Sept 13th 1975/6 season. Scorer was Mick Ferguson I think. It's been a hell of a ride since!
UTB

Looked it up!!

You must be joking... that was off the top of my head (and I am entirely serious in saying that).

First game - Wimbledon away at Plough Lane in 91. Drew 1-1, Brian Deane scored a penalty, I think Alan Cork scored for them.

First home game - Notts County in 1994. We lost 3-1 and were awful.

First game I ever saw us win - Norwich at home in 96, 2-1. Bryan Gunn got sent off at half time and I didn't realise until midway through the second half that they were down to 10 men!

In the Wimbledon game, Cork put them ahead, but them a strange handball by John Fashanu (a long throw into the box and he jumped up and palmed the ball away) gave us a pen which Deane scored. In the last minute, JF did exactly the same thing (clearly shown that the video for that season), but the ref missed it.

Given later events, people made various accusations about what JF was up to, not all of which were consistent with his 100% honesty.
