Filip Uremovic

I’d have him if the finances made sense. Came and slotted straight in with players he’d only just met in a different country. Strong, aggressive and reads the game well. Didn’t progress the ball as well as Basham but given Basham has been doing that role for 6 years it’s hardly surprising.

I tend to think he’d be too expensive as a squad player but even if Egan stays we need competition across the back 3.

Bash was playing through the pain barrier in those last few games. He has always had his limitations but he’s a legend and would run through brick walls for this club. Easily got another season in him at this level.

The evidence of the last 5 games since he came back would cast doubt on your last sentence. He looked very very slow and the ball over the top and in behind him caught him out for at least 3 goals. Needs a good preseason otherwise its a position that we can probably improve on. Great bloke and blades legend but results and performances matter

bash carrying an injury towards the end of the season was in the opinion of our management team better than a fully fit dark destroyer.
yes he was caught out by balls over the top,but there was a reason for it

As a pure defender, I thought Uremovic was great but his distribution was woeful. There was more than one occasion against Bournemouth where the ball was hoofed aimlessly, given away or shanked into the stands. In a standard back 4 or in the middle of a 3, he can get away with being a head-it, kick-it merchant but in the way we play, the RCB needs to be able to pick a pass or set something going.

I don't think we're going to do an about turn in our style to accommodate him somehow.

Despite this, we do need someone ready to step in when Bash is unavailable and/or starts to fall off the wagon as we've started to see. He's got 2 more years and that might be it unless he decides to drop down the leagues. We'd need to start easing Basham out of the side and ease someone else in, assuming they have more to offer in the present moment and to be able to fill the gap fully when Basham's gone. Same applies for Billy Sharp because, try as we might, none of the strikers we've signed since he did have been able to hit a barn door and until we find someone better, the shirt is theirs.

It's up to the management team to work out whether we sign someone else or promote Gordon to being Basham's full time understudy.

Personally, I'd look to cash in on Egan and get hold of Helik from Barnsley.

He seemed alright, solid.

Think we need an LCB with pace and athleticism. Not sure a back up for Basham who is slower than him is a priority.

"I thought Uremovic was great but his distribution was woeful"

That's just complete nonsense it was better than Bashams I cant remember many times uremovic even looked slightly under pressure on the ball

But can you remember when your mate McBurnie looked slightly likely to score a goal?

I don't quite get such a negative take on Uremovic's distribution. It seems to be all based on a few misplaced passes vs Reading. He didn't put a foot wrong in the other games. Yes he skied a possible winner at the end vs Bournemouth but if you're holding that against him then that's so far away from his immediate role in the team. Before Reading we hadn't conceded a goal with him in the team.

It was an inspired move and we were far too tepid getting him into the mix. We certainly wouldn't have conceded the goal away at Stoke or Bristol away for that matter.

We didn't quite have the courage of our convictions on that one.

Great - as a defender i.e. blocking shots, crosses, tackling, heading, being in position to stop the danger before it occurred.

From what I saw, certainly in the Bournemouth game, his ability with the ball at his feet was found wanting in the position he was playing in. Granted he missed a sitter at the end but throughout the game there were misplaced balls and clearances shanked into the stands when we could have retained possession slightly better. If he was under no pressure then there's far less excuse for giving the ball away.

The best bloke we could put at the back to head and kick balls away would probably be McBurnie, at least he doesn't have to be so particular about where it goes.

It would be interesting to see at the end of June if he could sign as a month trial. As we could use him in a few pre season friendlies and see if worth a full time deal if available.

Surely that was just due to being out of the game for a few months. A new side lacking a bit of confidence. It wasnt that long ago that the whole team were shanking balls all over the place.

I refer you to my first sentence.
I'm probably with Champagneblade on this one. I would much rather have had a fully fit Uremovic in than a half fit Basham for those last few games. It was a cock up from the coaching team in my view. Ok Uremovic is far less skillful and doesnt offer as much going forward on the flanks. But I also think Uremovic was an aerial threat (more so than any other of our defenders and would probably have headed in one of the very many chances John Egan headed over in the last few games).

I thought he was fine, and again, maybe playing him a bit more would have meant we wouldn't have shipped as many goals (Stoke away).

Basham looks finished to me. I’d definitely sign Uremovic but it wouldn’t be as a replacement for Bash. Think he could play RCB and it would give Bogle a lot more freedom to get forward.
Why so quick to dismiss him.
2 ordinary games, after returning from a bad injury and he’s finished, you say.
He looked far from finished to me, and will inevitably prove that next season, as he does.
Hope your bosses have more patience if ever you have a couple of off days, at work.

May be it’s just down to money his wages could have been too much for what we wanted to pay so we set him free for someone else to sign who is prepared to match his demands.

Well it seems hertha berlin have a similar judgement to him than i do
Looks like he was allowed to join on a free after his club went down.

We could have handled him better i.e. he could have played a number of matches more and we could have built an affiliation to us.

At his age, on a free. That's very good. He'd have been a decent replacement for Egan, who we could potentially have then cashed in on.
