Why do people even bother going to away matches?

Alcohol again is playing a huge part in the antagonism at away matches. A lot of fans go away for the day. Leave Sheffield early, have huge quantities of alcohol , arrive at the match and the euphoria of alcohol can quickly turn to bad behaviour. It's one of the reasons I don't go to away matches, I love the crack before the match but the minute it goes wrong, and it has a lot this season, then some fans get really aggressive.
I saw it happen at Wembly for goodness sakes, fans fighting one another.....


My brother in law loved a pint ( or three) before the match. One match at Preston some teenagers were having ago at the United fans. There was some banter, but these lads weren't letting it go. He decided to go and have a word with them......and that's what he did, he got into their stand and talked to them.......then got escorted out of the ground

But he didn't go to start a fight......one of a kind he was.

I lived and participated through some of the worse years of violence at matches
But fighting between ourselves utter bollocks.

I wasn't there today so didn't see or sense the mood, however, there is a lot of sensible comment on here, but the question is how many said something at the time?

I know its hard to challenge an idiot and a pissed one too, but in my experience bullies don't continue when they are challenged and especially when not in the majority.

There is enough lads with a bit of 'history', who still follow United, who know when violence is wrong, who've 'matured' and who have the respect to be listened to. There may even be some on here under aliases. If we don't all stand up when it matters, then those who practice 'bellenderry' (great phrase by the way) will consider it acceptable and I think there are many of us who can have a word with the eejits.

I'm at Fleetwood, still love the away day experience, will sink some pints and will support anyone who is being bullied by some knob who should know better. I don't plan to have a scrap, as that's just daft, but do believe in pointing out whats wrong.

We got parked in the church car park where the vicar just asked us to make a donation ,20 yards from the ground ,went in the club under the main stand for a few pints and a pie and then into the ground. Just like football should be ,until you get through the turnstile and about 60 teenage wankers are throwing beer around on everyone chanting take me home, acting hard when if someone as big as Shred walked through them they would have shit their pants. Then making it impossible for poor Matty Done to concentrate on his game. If I was him I would have a transfer request in tonight ,with the words on it get me away from these cunts. Berating a player almost face to face , playing out of position when hes trying to get us back in the game ,simply because hes the closest player to target wankers. The only other one today was Grunt Holt who seemed intent on inciting trouble even when the ref told him to pack it in ,any copper with anything about him could have arrested him there and then ,there were kids getting scared purely down to the reaction of his intimidation.
