It doesn’t necessarily have to be united but my story was around 12 years ago I was living in Aberdeen and I was in the pub before putting my weekly bet on and I heard 2 lads talking and one said “fucking sheff Utd I absolutely hate them cunts” and I started talking to them as I was curious who they supported turns out they supported Leeds and it got me thinking most people won’t say stuff like that in their own city pubs in case some nutter from the other teams overheard and took it the wrong way but not only a different city but a different country and you don’t know who’s listening, another occasion at school (myrtle springs) in 1999 and this lad who was from Sheffield supported Crewe and often went to their games he had no affiliation to the place or owt and he often could have been clipped in town when asked who he supported but when he said Crewe most people just laughed at him

I used to play a pub poker tournament in Sydney and the guy who ran it was planning his first trip to England to visit friends. When I asked him if he liked football, I couldn’t believe it when he was actually a Blade.

He ended up getting tickets for the 2009 Playoff final and stayed here for a year. Welcome to the club, the (until very recently) perennially hope-dashing club!

It’s madness some of things I’ve heard like people from Liverpool supporting Lincoln 😂😂😂😂 or I know a dad and son from billingham in the north east who are blades and have no connection to Sheffield craziness

Met a lad in Lincoln who supported United having gone to uni in Sheffield he was originally from Reading and it was the season United and Reading were both vying for promotion to the Prem. Reading of course went on to good things but he stuck with us as you should.

My new boss turned up at work in Derby nowt special saying hello to everybody, gets to me and his eyes alight on my United tee, it was a subtle one with a small cross scythes over the left breast and otherwise plain black (so didn't break any clothing codes). His eyes were as big as saucers. He was a Cardiff fan and apparently one of our players had crippled one of theirs and almost derailed their promotion bid and we were hated there (I knew nothing of this).

Back in 1989 I spoke to a lad from Bradford whose dad had taken him to matches at City, Wednesday and United.
He said he 'fucking hated' the City and Wednesday games and loved David Bassett's United.

Sitting in St James hospital with my wife probably around 2004 / 5 waiting for an appointment an appointment on the Oncology Dept and got talking to the couple sitting next to us.

I could see a white top underneath his coat. Making conversation I said that's not a Leeds top is it!

His reply us it Eck, I'm a Blade. Needless to to say the conversation went pretty well from there.

We saw them a few times at appointments after that. Hope he is doing okay.

Met an Israeli fella in a bar in the middle of nowhere in Costa Rica in 2010 and he was obsessed with us! Saw united in the prem season 2006/7, and chose us to be his team! He’d learnt history of the club and everything. Mrs at the time was less than thrilled at spending a night listening to us talking United all night

Not a Blade sadly, but...

When I was 15, we went on holiday to Cyprus. It was 1999, and the night of the Man U/Bayern Champions League final.

We landed early evening and by the time we got to the hotel, the telly was on in reception and there were about 10m left of the first half. Me, my Dad and even my Mum wanted to see the second half, so quickly dropped the cases in the apartment and headed straight out. The receptionist recommended a bar across the road that would definitely have it on and was a good atmosphere.

So off we went and sure enough, it was on loads of massive screens and was a lively friendly atmosphere, full of Brits and Irish all actually supporting Man U.

My Mum and sister got seats and me and my Dad went for the drinks.

The barman came over to us and of all things, was wearing a fucking pig shirt. That horrible Sanderson yellow thing with purple pinstripes. Having laughed at him and told him how shit it was, he explained that he didnt support them; but a few days earlier, someone who had been in regularly for his weeks holiday gave it to him on his last night so he could wear it and “spread the gospel”. How very pig fan, even back then.

The funniest part was the barman pointing out that he had to wash it before he wore it, because it- and I quote- “smelled very badly of the man”.

I was walking down the strip in Las Vegas and walked past a United fan wearing the home shirt from the DB promotion to division one. It was in 1995. Made me smile.

At a local bar in Lincoln (it's my local for United games, don't go in for any other reasons), watching us vs Man Utd and the bar filled up, there was from what I could work out only one Man Utd fan and me as a Blade. Fleck's goal goes in and there was a mega roar, I was at the bar and asked this lad, 'does everybody hate Man Utd?'
'No mate it was just a good, well deserved goal.'
Made my day.

I was working in Pembrokeshire in the late 1970's.

I used to play football for a small village called Solva. (It's claim to fame was Ian Walsh - Crystal Palace played for them a few years before).

In the early summer of 1979 a new kid joined our group and it so happened he was at the University of Sheffield. He started telling me how he loved going to the Lane and had become a real Blade.

He told me all about the last game of the season when we got relegated after drawing at home to Leicester and all the fans had invaded the pitch to get the game abandoned. I could tell that incidents like that didn't happen in a tiny fishing village in south west Wales.

This was obviously pre-internet days and I was starved of anything Blades related.

I was in the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao and up ahead I noticed a man ahead of me in a red and white striped shirt, I just assumed it was an Atlrtico supporter, it was only when I saw him later I saw the Ramsdens logo and the club badge did I realise he was a Blade. Never got to chat, I'm not a good 'cold caller'.

About 20 years ago we had a holiday in a tiny village called Penally just outside Tenby. On our first evening we walked down to the beach which was accessed through a car park and the first car we passed had a Blades badge sticker in the window. I never saw the owners but it being such a small place it was quite a coincidence there being another Blade in the village.
On another occasion we were in The Forest of Dean and drove to a country park for a day out. Parking was very random, more or less anywhere off the woodland tracks so we parked up under some trees and set off for a walk.
When we returned there was another car parked beside ours which was a bit odd considering the amount of places to park until I noticed again a Blades badge stuck in the window. They must have seen our car with our Blades badge and decided to park up next to us. We never saw who the car belonged to but for there to be two loads of Blades in that woodland in The Forest of Dean was a bit weird.

We park up and walk across the Penally range to the south beach often.

I was on a Cruise ship with my elderly in laws and as we disembarked at Florence, this twat got in the lift to leave the ship dressed from head tô toe in Leeds United strip, shorts, knee length socks, the lot, and capped it with white trainers.

At least I had my Blades shirt and shorts on, and ankle length Blades socks. I've always been classy.

Well Florence is the birth place of the Renaissance, have to make an effort.

He sounds like as big a knob as that one on David in Florence.

You sure that wasn't just the ship's captain?

True story: my brother worked alongside a Mexican in a vetinary practice in Cambridgeshire who was a Blades fanatic and even wore Blades shirts under his white vet's coat. Never found out if he refused to treat owls.
