That might have been the case in the past but these days we do pay big wages by Chanpionship standards. Whether we are paying them to the right players is a different matter.
Might be more than it used to be but i doubt the we still wont be paying more or around the likes of ipswich, Southampton, Birmingham, wrexham, boro? (Leeds & Burnley last season) & I don't mind that, as we have to be reasonable. Its what stops us doing a pigs, dont spend what you cant afford and all that.

next season your going to be having even bigger teams down with bigger budgets too, its ultimately going to be toughest season next season when you look at the potential teams paying in the league.

This bit worries me.

Our recruitment has been subpar for years and scrapping barrel with recruiting fodder and other clubs cast offs.. thats with parachute money & being in the Premier league, we've also not been prepared to gamble on giving big wages out to attract the better players / free agents.

Its also more of a worry the task at hand with what will be a pretty much turn over of the squad - another rebuild is on the cards.

Seems like Wilder will have to go full del boy mode and be wheeling & dealing.

People have always said a Wilder with no money is better than Wilder with a few quid to spend. That theory may well be put to the test again 😂

It's a huge summer coming up. We'll have to sell to reinvest and will likely have to take a hit on some of the dross we've signed if we're to be rid of them (Matos, Chong etc).

But I don't think you need to spend a fortune to be in and around the playoffs (this season is a prime example of this) and with the right level of building you can be challenging for automatics after two or three seasons.

Patience required, as well as some wheeler dealing.

The key for me is, without parachute payments, making sure the contracts are totally workable for the club above all else. After we get rid of the peripheral players this Summer, we ought to be building a squad around our academy players (if we can keep them).

Cooper
Seriki (new CB’s needed)
Arblaster/Peck/Brooks
New forwards needed

The contract lengths and incentives for those new players coming in shouldn’t be any longer than 18-24mths with a promotion incentive built in. If we do go up then a Sunderland-esque transformation needs to happen to stabilise us in prem. This includes the possibility of Wilder leaving too.

I’d like to see us recruit like Boro have, no “big name” players of yesteryear. Just honest championship players with athleticism, who can run and have a some technical ability.

Like someone said, Wilder with little budget is more of an exciting prospect.

I agree with the thrust of your argument, but I worry that "building a squad around our academy players" and "Wilder with little budget" are incompatible.
Golden Boys Arblaster and Peck will probably make the cut, but I fear that we'll end up with a squad of "been there done its" who block the pathway for One, Marsh, Sachdev et al, and potentially sideline Seriki and Brooks.
Hope I'm wrong, of course 🤞

At least they’re being open. I’d rather they be cautious and not land us with high wages for players who can’t be arsed. Wednesday’s shit will be the tip of the iceberg. Leicester, could be next, Derby and Reading as well before

So many clubs in the Championship who have no transparency with their ownership. Wheeling and dealing works well for Wilder, it’s when he has a budget he begins acting like Roy Cropper at the wheel of a McLaren.

Ambition to me would be Cat A. Not selling our youngsters until they’re attracting money we’d be stupid to turn down. Investing in the Kop and modernising the football structure, appointing people who know the game in advisory roles, not poker players.

Patience ? PATIENCE ?
I've been patiently waiting for some regime to match Harris's 5 years in the top league.
Harry Bassett almost did it - in very difficult circumstances.
But I'm getting on a bit now and the prospect seems ever more remote in my lifetime.

Time & tide wait for no man 🤣

(please don't pile in ... Just a bit of philosophical humour 😉 We've been in much worse state than today)

Still no confirmation of who owns the freehold.

I've arrived at an age where I've realised that I'll never see us win anything in my lifetime. Just the pride in being a Blade is going to have to do.

I’ve just watched this and I have to say for the first time in a few years we seem to have some structure & a plan. And with no parachute money for the first time in 7 years we certainly need it. The fact that the Dore Trg ground is moving forward is the big bonus though. And it seems that Wilder is firmly back in the middle of everything - which with no parachute money - is great news. He’ll need to wheel & deal well in the summer (assuming we don’t go up) to make us competitive against the likes of Wolves, Burnley,West Ham next season.
