I'm taking my daughter (8 years old) to her first match on Saturday and we'll be sat in the Family Stand.
Hope soI wonder if the stewards this year will turn a blind eye on night matches for adults using kids season tickets?
Last season you needed to show a match ticket to go in and there was a limit, but I don't think they bothered on Sunday. It's a brilliant facility for the kids when you want to get to the ground early.
If your that worried, just ring the club, and change your seats to the Pukka pie corner, I've sometimes heard the odd deep breath, or cough up there, maybe the odd sneeze, but other than the rustle of a packet of Wurthers, you should be fine up there.I'm taking my daughter (8 years old) to her first match on Saturday and we'll be sat in the Family Stand. How family friendly is it? I'm trying to decide how many new words she might learn that I have to warn her to never mention in front of her mother. Although coming up from London for the match I can just tell her that anything she hears is a foreign language anyway so not to worry![]()
I look at it this way - what swear words didn’t you know when you were 8?
Around the time of the David Pleat song, I asked my grandfather what kerb crawling was. He quickly changed the subject!
My daughter is 15 now so I have stopped worrying about it - but she started coming with me about age 11 (on the kop) - she loves all the swearing. When everyone chants w*****r at the ref or opposition her face lights up.
It depends on a bit of luck. Mostly it's Ok but I did go through a period on there when the two blokes behind me used to talk about how glad they were that their banning orders were over. in their 40's and head to toe in stone Island. A right pair of dicks they were., arrived 10 minutes late, left 5 minutes early for 1/2 time pint, got back from half time 10 minutes into the 2nd half and away ten minutes from the end. I think the child was actually sat 10 feet away with his granddad. You know who you are if you post on hereI'm taking my daughter (8 years old) to her first match on Saturday and we'll be sat in the Family Stand. How family friendly is it? In the years I’ve been taking my lad, he has always known that he will hear some naughty words, and they aren’t to be repeated by himself, at any point. He finds it amusing when people come out with an x-rated rant. Occasionally the odd sweary rant comes from my mouth and he finds that funny, especially as in normal circumstances I don’t wear in front of him.
Why do you think she'll hear any 'new' words?I'm taking my daughter (8 years old) to her first match on Saturday and we'll be sat in the Family Stand. How family friendly is it? I've been going on there (perhaps 6 or so per season) for last 3 years. Never much queue... though obviously, timing is always an issue. What are the half time bar queues like in the family stand? Better because fewer folk are drinking or worse cos all the kids want a snack?
She's been desperate to go for years and have decided to finally go for it. I'd rather she starts with a home match rather than an away one. I'm more worried about the 6 hour round trip in the car!
Totally agree Snake. My lad, Esteemed Forgeblade, started going when he was 8, on the kop, with his uncle (my ex-brother in law), and loved it. Uncle could be pretty lairy but he got Rich hooked and the rest is history. We went on the JSS for a few years after I started taking him (he was 11 then) but couldn't give vent to our feelings on there and have been on the kop ever since - nearly 20 years. We both have in the ground and out of the ground rules and this has always been the case because he's a well brought up bloke (thanks to his mum)! Don't worry about it, just enjoy it. I don't actually agree with the family stand as I think it's pointless!! Cue world falling on head!To be honest, I think that if they are brought up properly at home (as of course all Blades kids are, by definition) then a bit of social reality isn't a bad thing. I've always taken my kids towards the back of the kop with me - as all my mates have done too. It's called 'life' and learning social interaction and how people really are isn't a bad thing. As they develop into adulthood, what they choose to do is up to them, and this is where parental guidance etc comes in.
Ok ok, I know I'm probably in a minority of 1 here lol, and I'm a philistine (as my wife often reminds me) but .................................... oh i'll put the shovel down and stop digging - I'm wrong![]()
