In the second dress rehearsal draw for the 4th round we were drawn at home to Liverpool. Damn!

1st out in 3rd round & last out in 4th round. ok we all wanted a glory tie at home like in rehearsal, liverpool at home. but we didnt play any glamour ties in 2013/14 (bar aston villa) Colchester, Cambridge, Fulham, Forest, Charlton & we all have great memories. id be going regardless work allowing to any home game. ive been to fa cup home games v Torquay Worcester sorry Jonny & Salisbury in recent yrs. so preston is an improvement ;):D

im pleased with that draw highly winnable & importantly at home. win that we are 90mins from a FA Cup Quarter Final

If folk remember the pigs tried to play in the FA cup at the same time as us on the same day but got fucked off by Charlton.

Ah well. Underwhelming ties in early rounds can be the making of great cup runs. Bring it on (again) !

Bert's memory seems to think that one round when we both were drawn at home we kicked off at 2.45 and them at 3.15 (Or vice versa)

1970s I think, can’t remember who we played ? A good question though, one for Silent. I remember walking past a few wrong uns on Pond street as we headed to Shoreham street and they waited for buses to Muddlewood

January 1970 third round. We played Everton at home and they played West Brom at home. Both matches were played on the Saturday (the 3rd I think). May well have had staggered kick off times.

I'm quite happy for us to keep getting these 'meh' draws in the cup and bore our way through to the next round.

Bert's memory thinks you are correct.

Couldn't make it up. Some big Prem teams in there at the end and we draw each other, having played each other loads of times in recent years.

This is going to get moved to Sunday because the pigs would also be at home if they win their replay, isn't it?

Surely as our tie is confirmed we shouls get first dibs in terms of Saturday. Wednesday not even through yet. Also it would be late waiting till say 10 says before to decide who plays when?

Finally we were meant to be at home anyway that day so policing would have been directed to s2.

Basically if they beat Carlisle they can play it Sunday at 12pm or an equally day/stupid time.

We'll take MK Dons or Coventry in next round then We're in quarters... Then I'm happy for the "big tie"

Ah well at least I get to go bait PNE Thor.

The last time we were in the 4th round in 2015,we were also drawn against Preston. The odds on this must be about the same as an asteroid hitting earth two days running.

I wanted Liverpool or Man City.

2 reasons, first just to see how Wilder would have set us up against those teams who attack as well as they do.
And secondly so I could see just how far we are away from them

There’s only one set of fans who are going to be really pissed off and that’s Preston, having to play away but to be fair they could’ve got a team a lot shitter or further away than us, Yeovil or Millwall for example so think yourselves lucky PNE. :)

Once upon a time long before Sky invented football and such things as armchair football fans evolved from pond life the FA Cup was the best competition in the world. It stirred supporters blood, a tremendously simple formula, you win, you earn the right to progress, glory beckons. It doesn't escape my attention that PNE produced arguably the best result of round 3. Potentially very tricky opponents away from home, comfortably despatched. The disinterest and disrespect shown on this thread pisses me off, it's very simple, if we are to progress we will have to beat what's in front of us and as far as I'm concerned winning the FA cup would be off the scale in terms of being the greatest day I would ever have experienced as a Blade. Why do so many of you appear so hostile to the match? Have you all swallowed the TV shite that the only matches worth bothering about are those involving the top 6 of the PL?

you make a very good point. we should be on saturday because as you say every already in place for a home game at bramall lane on the saturday. surely more work to put to move 2 matches than 1

Totally agree. It's the one chance most fans get of some real glory, of David clobbering Goliath. I think this as a Blade and also as a fan of football, not of the PL. Remember those feelings when we beat Charlton and Southampton, and a couple of years ago at Villa? We lost against not very mighty Hull at Wembley, not a "glamour" semi, but a fantastic day out (from what I remember) in an otherwise crap few seasons. Newport fans (who have even more to be miserable about than most) will never forget the day they beat the Dirties - it won't matter to them that Leeds now aren't the"old" Leeds, they're still Leeds (scum)! The FA cup is the only contest where you get this stuff still happening, and I still think it's great for that reason. We should celebrate us and PNE still being in it, rather than moaning about not getting a bunch of overpaid second string prima donnas coming to BDTBL. There, I've said it!
