The FA Cup is more or less dead due to the FA’s own decisions.

1. They Scrapped 2nd and 3rd replays
2. They scrapped semi final replays entirely
3. They pressurised the then holders Man U not to defend so they played in some pointless tournament in Brazil in a fruitless attempt to land the World Cup
4. They moved the semis to Wembley.
5. They scrapped the quarter final replays.

If the FA can’t respect the traditions of their own tournament why should anyone else give a toss about it?
Because it is still the best cup competition in the world.
It's sad that because owners don't give a toss about the cup fans have suddenly stopped caring as well. I don't give a shit about prize money, I want a day to remember.

If they don't offer at least 200 loyalty points for this one I'm going to torch the ticket office.

Totally agree.

Another away draw in the 3rd Round. Our last home draw at this stage was against which team in 2012? JonnyRed(WCFC)

When did we become too big to be bothered about the FA cup , too big to consider Ipswich to be a decent tie and throw the towel in , send the kids n stiffs ??
just a question
Colchester away was supposedly a 'crap draw' in the 1st Round in 2013. We ended up at Wembley in one of the best games we have ever seen.

Bobby Robson ,Colin Viljoen ,kevin Beatties pub and Steven Wright.

The FA Cup is a great competition and we've had some (fairly) recent success in it - if you count semi-finals as successful we've had 4 in my lifetime alone, and I'm not 30 yet. I always want us to put a strong side out and always hope for a cup run, but this is definitely not an inspiring draw, and with the Derby the following week, I can see key players being rested and us being turned over.

Ooh, me neither. Give it 15 minutes though...

If we didn't have the derby the following week I'd go with a stronger team. But as it is, I wouldn't risk anyone we don't have to.

Hopefully we get to the next round and then give it a good go.

Ehh, I think it's better than folk are making out. While the words "Ipswich away" hardly get the hairs standing on the back of my neck, this is a winnable tie against a team we've already beaten once this season. There's more desirable matches in the draw that will be picked for TV. We'll not even be considered, so no dodgy kick off times. 3pm, Saturday, pub crawl round Ipswich, 1-0 win and back home again at a fairly reasonable hour.

Yeah it's not the Wendies at home, but we've got that the week after, an't we. I'm always up for a good cup run, the old wisdom about cup football detracting from league performance is demonstrable bollocks, players like to score goals and win games, no matter where and why, and after a tough run of fixtures between now and then, a relatively low stakes cup game could be exactly what we need to set up the 2nd half of the season. So bring it on, I say.

Aye, my in laws live near Ipswich so it's ordinarily an easy trip, but as I'll have been there for a week over Christmas I'm not sure I'll be ready to go back!

I've made sacrifices for the Blades over the years, but that might be a step too far!!

You don't have to tell them do you?

(About Christmas I mean)

I'm actually quite pleased with that draw because in all my years of watching United that's one ground I've never been too. I used to live near Colchester many moons ago and I've been to Ipswich more times than I've had hot Pukka Pies. But I've never set foot inside Portman Road. So...I may well give that a go!

It's a long way though isn't it? Is it on telly?

Went to the 3rd round match at Portman Rd in 1974. Lost 3-2 with TC scoring . Used SUT from Pond street on an owd Chara.

we got arrested and missed the first 15 minutes , as our Chara had had breakfast in a service area on the A1 and quite a few had forgotten to pay for much of it, remember it as I took my younger brother who was about 11 then and we were on the front seat , so we were the first to face police enquiies ,, me mate no mate

Rubbish draw, be about 8000 there and we will take about 500, just play all the fringe players and move on
