explain to me again why we need 4 x 5 million pound players

Here's the issue.
Buy expensive players they come with big wages.
Give one player big wages then the other main players like Coutts, Fleck, JOC, Bash, Freeman etc will want comparable wages.

And that's when a £10m wage budget becomes a £20m budget! Or you let one man get paid double everyone else and you end up with disharmony.

We need I think 3 more quality players. 2 strikers and a central midfield player in the Fleck/Coutts mould. Possibly a centre half too as cover is light there.
We will spend whatever is needed to get the right player who is on a par with what we already have financially.

9th home win n the bounce dominated and out shot regular top 8 team Derby
creating chances got in players that are starting to fit in and are in top 6
and still above the swine

Fair enough, but how scary would it be if wilder had money, real money, robson type support from McCabe ??

Yes, but it sounds like Lavery stepped up today ............... and we haven't seen the best of him yet. Are there really better options out there that are value for money?

Did he? I'm not sure about that. It was the same Lavery for me. Getting in some good positions but continually making the wrong choices and generally ineffective.

i'd give a shout out to stevens too. lafferty didn't do much wrong last season and has been a bit unlucky, but it shows wilder will not be happy with standing still and will make those tough decisons, think edna is getting better by the game

His name isn't "Edna" btw. That's a woman's name. His name is "Enda".

Same as I've said so far this season, you can see the gaps in our side but you can also see that the massive gulf in class we were told about is more of a small step..

From what I've seen there is a big step up between league 1 and Championship
But let's not forget we are probably the best side to come out of league 1 in over a decade.

We were a class above the 2 other promoted sides Bolton and Millwall
So it shouldn't be so surprising that we're adapting so well at the higher standard.

my great uncle was in the royal tank regiment in WW2 .. i asked him how the 8th Army went from being a laughing stock to one of the most feared and famous units in the war.. his reply..
management

Always one extreme to another at times.

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday and I'm delighted with our start. Only Cardiff have beaten us comprehensively.

However we should always be looking to improve. We haven't got 5 million to spunk on one player I doubt, but pride also comes before a fall. What's the plan if Billy picks up a long term injury?

How about enjoy the ride but not get ahead of ourselves. I'm more than happy being under the radar and hopefully being underestimated regularly. Don't get this obsession some have with getting plaudits off Channel 5, Radio Sheffield, or whoever.

We don't need propaganda. Just let Wilder and Knill get on with it.

really i'm glad you pointed that out i had no idea. i don't know who is thicker. me for finding calling him edna in all my posts amusing, or you for actually thinking i didn't know his name was enda

When I had to do 'management' modules at uni one of the examples we studied in depth was Montgomery and the 8th Army. The way he empowered those below him and to deal with the problems of logistics etc, how he created structure for success, how he removed excuses for failure. I've heard football managers talking about the same things; having 'captains' on the pitch, setting things up properly and professionally, giving players no excuses.

There's no evidence of that happening whatsoever.

If you have spoilt brats in your team it might be a problem, but not if you have players with a good attitude who want to work hard and gain themselves a better contract on their own steam, it isn't a problem and there isn't a club in world football where every player gets the same.

Every time Real Madrid sign another player the wages get higher and there is no disharmony. The players understand that they're own contract was written in a different time and if they want more they will have to impress or fuck off

Not all players are like the Forestfairy.....lol

Some of us do like to find excuses for not signing better players.

Not all established PL and Championship players are prima donnas with shit attitudes.

Whether 2p or 20 million we need players in.
Fact is, to get players in who are better than our starting eleven is going to cost 1-2 million if not a lot more.

If we can get em for less, fantastic, but that's how I see it.

And that's the point. It ain't that simple to find those with the attitude to let it go.
And we aren't talking a grand or two a week difference, that's not the issue.
A player arriving for the fee like that will expect wages in the £20k a week bracket. None of ours will be close to that.
So when one or two arrive earning twice the players already here, professionalism and attitude won't come into it. It would be a case of say for arguments sake Fleck saying....hang on...I got offered a new deal a fraction of that and was told that was the most offered....(as there will have been negotiations on wages, there always is) yet here's "x" rolling up getting double my wages! AM I NOT AS WELL REGARDED? As important to the team? And when the higher paid player has an off day all the others look at it....contempt grows over time.

So I not expecting equilibrium across the side....but there should be a ceiling, and certain important players should be on it.
Fleck, Sharp, Coutts, JOC, Bash, Freeman should all be similar. Longer serving or just critically important players. Stick one on double that....not a good idea.

Wages are confidential and so if the players all keep their mouths shut about what they get then it won't be an issue.
