To be an established PL club with fine facilities for the players and fans, in with a serious shout of winning a domestic cup each year, and an outside chance of challenging for European football. Tbh, that's the pinnacle for me watching Utd. That and pissing on the establishment and pundits by being a maverick interesting club.

Great post. That's exactly what I hope to see. 1 or 2 real quality players per window. Improvements for the ground and training facilities, etc..

But.... I have to question ... "Our STEADY improvement"????? ... It's nothing short of meteoric! Like a freight train straight out of hell!!

In football, you never aim for mid table, that's how you get relegated. We go for Europe again and if we fail we fail, so what?

At some point we will have to try and dominate more, possibly changing style and potentially players, before we can be an established side. January signings suggests the start of the process. Moving forward on the pitch might not see us progress in the short term on the league table.

So I will settle for progress on the pitch.

I would LOVE European football - but do we have the squad depth to sustain premier league intensity, european football, a cup run AND bigger clubs potentially making offers for our better players?

I would ( as most on here ) have taken survival this season
Now a top ten finish is on the cards , and unbelievable a top 6 Europe position is up for grabs , it’s been an incredible season so far ,
But let’s not get all Billy big bollox about it , let’s be in this league for the foreseeable future , and build up gradually year by year , I’d take top ten every season with a good cup run 5th round quarters ,any competition, and a possibility of Europe
What I don’t want is some of our fans to go like Charlton did and get to big for there boots , and think we’re bigger and better than we are
But I’m sure Sir Chris and AK would soon sort that out

We have a really good realistic chance of Europe so I’d be disappointed if we finish mid table because it would mean we’ve performed worse in the 2nd half of the season. Relative success would be qualifying for Europe and semi final (Wembley appearance) in the FA cup.

It would feel like it at the time but most of us would soon get over it and appreciate we’d still done well. It would be things like Spurs playing shit but still beating us that would piss us off at the time. I’d love us to qualify for Europe but if it doesn’t happen, meh, still been a good season.

I agree it would be disappointing , but I think
spurs / Chelsea/ manure are nowhere near where they should be and we all as sensible football fans realistically know that and I’m actually quite shocked as to how poor they are at times ,
but I can’t see us stagnating like the teams you’ve mentioned and you can throw in barcodes with that as well , our manager and squad are steadily improving , and with more additions thanks to sky money I think we’ll be even more solid next season
I think next season there will be about 8 teams worse than us
So again a top ten finish could well be on the cards , and after this season no one will underestimate us , and actually fear coming to the Lane , and not from getting kicked off the park either

I don't think it'd be disappointing to me and I don't think I'd ever say we blew it if we don't get Europe. You only have to look at the sides we're competing for a spot with to see how hard it'll be to achieve it.

We need to keep all our feet in the ground and be realistic, our aims should be to improve year on year , don’t be a fixture filler , be a fixture to fear
And not in a Stoke / Bolton way
I’m glad Sir Chris and AK are going about it the way they are , and I’m extremely proud of what our club is achieving , I’d be disappointed if we finish below 8th this season after the season we’ve had
And I’ve seen our club in all 4 divisions
Seen us lose promotion/ relegation playoffs ,

I want Wilder to continue in the same vein. Confounding critics, and even fans, by pulling more rabbits from the hat.

I think next season will be a test for us the fans, not only what's happening on the pitch but also what's happening away from matches.

This season we've had our egos well and truly massaged by the majority of opposing fans and the press (Garth Crooks and Danny Mills aside). Every time there's an article, podcast about us its posted on here and haven't we truly loved it?

Like everything people get tired of the same and look for something new.

Next season there may be a new kid on the block, West Brom, Brentford, Leeds who knows. One of them may become the media darlings.

I can imagine there'll be meltdown on here when suddenly we are not in the media spotlight and someone else has taken our place.

The closest I can compare to this season is when we got promoted in 1971 and took the old first division by storm for 10 matches playing an attacking, cavalier style of football. The newspapers threw the compliments at us. After our loss at Old Trafford we dropped off the scale to a certain extent.

This season's 'success' has gone longer than 10 matches and with the internet and the huge appeal of the Premier league the exposure to praise has been greater.

We should all have total confidence, trust, belief in Chris Wilder and his team but let's not get carried away if we start losing our appeal.

For myself; seeing us continue to innovate and improve tactically, sign young enthusiastic players, make a huge profit on any outgoings, improve the training facilities/lay the foundation for future growth, at least achieve mid-table

I think there’s a golden opportunity to get European football, so I’d be aiming for that now. That’s not to say I’d be disappointed if we finished tenth!

Given our tie is against Reading, quarters of the FA cup as a minimum.
