Not really recouping losses is it? More likely means saving them putting more in.

I don't really know. Just seems that comparably sized clubs don't have to go about things in this sort of a way.

All the more of a shame when Wilder is so comfortable operating within a cloth-cut budget.

What has surprised me most about this thread...

Silent Blade is on the Facebook.

Cold compress in a dark room...

Most everything else here so far is certainly fairly predictable, I'll give you that Sir John. "A man hears what he wants to hear ....", etc.

Absolute gaarbage from Paul Simon. McCabe out !

That's the trouble. None of us actually know what's happening. I'm not expecting a great deal of investment in January. I hope I'm wrong.

The ones who know least are the ones who say they know, but can't back anything up.

I'm wondering if Princey might not have much choice with the clamp down in Saudi. He might not be able to splash the cash anymore and in a 50/50 partnership if one half stops putting money in the other will be loathed to. Hard to know if Mr van winkle is to safeguard his investment by making better footy decisions (we have bought lots of squad players who can't even make the first team in a crisis) or if he is to oversee his interests while he makes a retreat.
This has occurred to me as well. How much of his money is still in Saudi and potentially controlled?

Given he is no longer in Government and completely sold his interest in Saudi Paper Manufacturing, he is a full time “investor”.

To me that is likely to be global property, sport and shares etc.

Is his access to money constrained?

I’d be interested to know if he is still pushing ahead on the purchase of Beerschot Wilrijk FC in Belgium. Plus monies for SUFC of course but he’s unlikely to make that public.

If it was constrained, the Beerschot deal will be off.

Why are you surprised I am on Facebook? I think it is useful for me especially in keeping in touch with many from a boarding school I went to. A couple of weeks ago in a Dronfield FB group someone posted a photo of what could be my great-grandfather as I have never seen one of him. He was like a father to my late dad and I have always been curious of what he looked like. Plenty of interesting photos too

And your excellent contributions to the Football Nostalgia group SB

No No No...
I/We want to know what you had for your tea.
How many times you went to the toilet and what you're watchin' on TV tonight.

Using that medium for sensible things... it's just not right!

Merry Christmas...

Yes. There were a few articles at the end of October then nothing. The Saudi crackdown happened after.

Ridiculous that the Crown Prince cannot see the advantage of investing in 2nd division football in Belgium as a means of transforming the Saudi economy.

Facebook live will allow you to see into Silent s inner sanctum where all information is stored and watch him rooting out a pair of Ernest Needhams underpants from an away game at West Brom.

Think Alan Partridges biggest fan. :)

Nobody and I mean nobody would be complaining about our tiny budget this January if the board were just honest for once. Just tell us we’re potless and we’ll deal with it.

They couldn’t manage that though could they? Back in the summer it was all jam tomorrow. What was the need in McCabe saying we would invest big in January if we had a chance of promotion? This is why people are fed up
Where was this invest big statement you talk of. I thought McCabe has been very open and honest, there would be funds available if we need to strengthen because we're in a battle at either end of the table.

I don't see statements to say thats changed

Why not contribute something meaningful?

Plenty of meaningful contribution from me all over this forum. Including in the sections that you have dismissed as meaningless in the past. As I've noted before, assuming that you are more intelligent or "meaningful" than everyone else is always a dangerous move to make. Especially on this forum.

My New Year resolution will be to avoid all engagement with superior, self-satisfied, patronising, pompous trolls. Absence of self-awareness, and lecturing others on your own virtue and value ? Pfffft.

Oh, and I wasn't talking to you (perish the thought). I was talking to LYDON. His posts generally merit a reply. Yours don't.

We actually signed Done, Coutts, Wallace I think and I think Freeman that JTW as well as Brayford.

That was more than big backing for Clough who had spent a lot the previous summer too.

Maguire had gone by then but let's not say we haven't spent money. See the O.P.

Done came with a sizeable fee too if a recall.

Suits me sir:)

Lack of investment really?
United’s losses, before taking into account player sales, were £7.7 million in 2016/17, or about £150,000 a week. Total similar losses during the League One years were £31.2 million, although player sales reduced this by £12.5 million.
Wages in L1 reached as much as £11m a year the average for L1 is £4m
Yet with figures like that we still blew £2m on Brayford
So while it’s easy to be critical of the board let’s be realistic & look at the bigger picture.
Don’t forget we’ve picked up some quality players on the cheap that would demand sizeable transfer fees today & we are challenging the big spenders on the pitch
The problem is pure frustration obviously we all want to throw money at the squad & bring in top players but that’s not Chris Wilders style & is no guarantee of success... we all know a pig fan don’t we ? ask them

Don't think it's so much of lack of investment but inability to compete financially with some teams. Spend wisely and in the right areas, that's a sensible philosophy

Has he sent you a Christmas card? I'm sure he'll know where you live....

The frustration is more from the hope we gained when the Prince joined and the investment he talked about. I know there is reports he put £15m into the club in the first year or two and I'm not disputing that either. However, the view seems to be from many, and me included, that when we got promoted we'd see the Prince spend some of this "Liverpool" style investment. It appears from the outside that the spending is no more than what I'd have expected if McCabe had stayed in sole control. I hope the relationship between the two is still good, and the decision ti appoint Van Winckel was a joint one too.
KM had stopped spending. That's why we couldn't attract a better manager than Weir. I think with the Prince the plan was to get out of the league in two seasons from when he took over; that Clough's first full season should have been the promotion season. Instead, the Prince has had to take two more hits on his investment pot, which has depleted what he'd have otherwise invested when we got promoted.

A couple of points about this, how many people didn't want Brayford at the time? I was a dissenter but there weren't many of us. (You may remember me saying, if there's one thing I've learnt from Football Manager it's, 'never blow your budget on one player as they invariably get injured.')
Done cost £800k (if the rumours were to be believed) and was a goal scorer. But you have to play to a striker's strength if you want him to score and Clough decided not to.
I was with you on Brayford and said so at the time.

£1.5m in division 3 was ludicrous and yet McCabe doesn't back his managers say some.

The points in the O/P are reasonable & fair. But a justification for selling Brooks?

We're offloading at least one prized asset a season so's the poor, poor owners can recoup their losses.

In the seeming absence of another stellar youngster sellable in the next 12 months or so, who next? Fleck? O'Connell?
How exactly have the owners recouped anything when we continue to lose money every year?

Surely you'e not suggesting brown envelopes are passing under tables to sweeten the deal and explain why we report such low fees.

Who says it’s a tiny budget?

What Woodwardfan means is...

You don't post OPs that gain 60+ 'likes' therefore, you (and I + many others) don't really contribute to this board.

VUMx

PS... Have a good Christmas.
