Ex Blades doing the parkrun

I’m making a note of these ‘flat’ Parkrun courses, for future reference. Currently have an age grading the same as Quinny’s first effort, but wouldn’t mind seeing how I’d get on with a flat deck.

My weekly Parkrun is Fountains Abbey. Stunning location but definitely one to categorise as ‘undulating’ The first km is flat but the second is a gradual incline for the entire km. You can get back up to speed through the third and fourth km which are predominantly flat but then you have to dig in for another incline for the last 700 metres to the finish.

Superb sausage sandwiches.
Rother Valley (one lap) & Monsal Trail (out & back) probably likeliest candidates round here.

Graves Park is my favourite locally but I like to visit them all from time to time. Enjoyed the new one at Waverley Lakes (nr Treeton), but you need to give yourself 20 mins to walk there from the suggested parking.

Poolsbrook is very flat and it's a 3 lap course but there are a couple of pinch points. One is crossing the bridge the and the other is at the opposite end which is a couple of wooden bollards to negotiate. Bothe don't create issues until your third lap but there are marshalls at both points giving instructions to the plodders.
Plenty of Parking, Cafe and Toilets. If you like a nice easy warm up you could park at Rother valley and have a steady 45 min jog.

Definitely need to get to Monsal - done enough training on there, running after the kids on their bikes when they were young.

Graves Park would be an emotional homecoming, having grown up living on Norton Lees Road. Bring back memories of watching United’s players jogging through the park at the public pre-season training session in Summer 1982.

Always remember Edwards being right at the back, almost as if he was making a point that long runs were pointless for him and didn’t stop him being lightning quick over 10 yards when it counted…

We've been to the Poolsbrook cafe today, first time in ages. Not a fan of my breakfast served in a takeaway plasticky box and wooden cutlery. Won't be dashing back tbh. Staff nice enough.

I've never done a park run and I never will due to a fused ankle joint.

I was my school cross country captain in 1974 and it's one of the few things in life that I feel I have missed out on.
