Went in the 80s with a wendy supporting uncle, Spurs if my memory is right.
Got the programme in a box with all the old blades ones, 1985 i think sat in north stand .. sterland, chapman and wilkinson.
only ever been back to watch the blades, sometimes in the home end !

I went a few times mid 80's as a family friend (porker) used to get comps for both teams and took us to both. I knew I was a blade then and it always seemed weird driving for so long and past the United ground to get there. We were greenhill/bradway based. I remember a game v Millwall with an eerie miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllwwwwwwaaaaaaallllll going on for ages. Nothing about any game really stands out. Around the same time I only really remember Beagrie doing five more step overs than necessary and going back to take on the full back more than once when it seemed like he'd beaten him already when we went to United games.

Other notables were when me and a miller mate were bored so got drunk and went to watch Grimsby at the sty on the away end and enjoyed their "we piss, on your fish, oh yes we do, oh yes we do" chant. It was a bit of a relegation scrap (from the championship) and both teams were shite. Pressman made a good save from the only chance of note to keep it 0-0.

Went with same miller mate to watch them win in the last minute under Ronnie Moore which was brilliant to witness.

Also went to the right wing love in that was the rangers friendly a couple of years ago when I've never seen so many absolutely annahilated drunks in one place. Rangers were on their arse but Wendy seemed to be set up to sneak a draw which was odd and clearly a sign that Jones thought they were a bit shit and needed to practice not losing for the forthcoming season.

Man U used to take over Sheffield in the 70's.
Different times weren't they. I was only born in 76. I do remember seeing some footage of Hillsboro hosting an fa cup semi and literally every local business had shutters down or some kind of rudimentary boarding over the windows for the day like some kind of dystopian future. Now businesses love a big game and the chance to sell a few wares. Then you lost a days trade and hoped you weren't looted. Or so that impression seemed to me.

As a kid, we used to go down to the sty on FA cup semi day and get in at the end, or if luck over the wall via the flood light on the leppings lane end. I remember many a time man U fans absolutely invading Sheffield. In the mid 70s they travelled in huge numbers. I remember at the sty manu vs leeds, and vs derby both times leeds and derby fan were almost unseen outside of the ground. I still remember some of the banners, Gordon Hill strikes faster than British Leyland :)

posted this before but seems relevant

biggest pasting believe it or not , pigs v manure in div 2 , me and 2 blades mates went to game to watch manure , none of the massive had turned up and about 30 blades were battling manure fans on the kop ,not a good day :tumbleweed:

Been there on numerous occasions, mostly to a full or nearly full house.

My first memory of going to a football ground of any kind was going there was when I was at junior school in the early ‘fifties just after the Coronation when the Queen visited Sheffield. The place was full of schoolkids watching a display put on for HM and Phil the Greek. Our class were in the front row of the south stand and got a great view.

Was there again in 1957 to watch the semi-final between Man U (Busby’s babes) and Birmingham City. Can’t recall much about the match but do remember being v impressed with the physique, skill and sheer presence of Duncan Edwards. Less than a year later he was killed at Munich with much of the rest of the team.

In Jan 1960 Rotherham played a 3rd round second replay there against Arsenal there before the biggest crowd apart from Wembley games I have been to. 56,000 all paying at the turnstile. Rotherham won 2-0. Keith Kettleborough played a blinder and John Harris signed him shortly afterwards.

Like many others on here, I too visited the place in 1962 to see Santos. At the time this game was seen as a great public relations coup for Wednesday. However after the event it was revealed that the Santos team had flown into Manchester Airport and that the players including Pele thought they had come to play Manchester United – not such good PR for S6 !

After moving to the North East I returned to Sheffield in 1973 to see second division Sunderland beat Arsenal in the cup semifinal. Sunderland were a team of journeymen players up against starstudded first division Arsenal. Arsenal’s keeper was Bob Wilson who also had a nice sideline as a tv pundit who was frequently asked by Jimmy Hill to “talk us through that one, Bob”. He had a poor game and the Sunderland fans behind him enjoyed asking him to talk us through picking the ball out of the back of the net after the Mackems had gone 2 up.

Used to be not such a bad place when no blue and white stripes were on view.

Bad understanding between Wilson and Jeff Blockley led to Vic Halom scoring the first goal

Went to watch some mates play in a Sunday league cup final, refused to go but was told "its your mates" and "stop being daft" so as soon as I got in I had to have a photo of myself sticking the rods up at every stand.

Went last pre-season to see the Benfica game, sat with the Benfica fans obviously. Pigs won 1-0 through Forestfairy, Benfica played their third string keeper who's nearly as old as I am
