Ever the optimist, amidst this season of relentless shite, I thought I’d post something we can actually be proud of as a club. Am sure this has been done before but haven’t seen one recently, so maybe time for an update.
I have arbitrarily taken players active at a top level in roughly the last 20 years, obviously imagining them all playing in their prime. Also, I haven’t made a distinction between lads who have been in our system for years and those that just came in for a ‘finishing school’. The Academy role includes scouting top youngsters as well as developing them, so for me, if a kid comes in, plays one game in U21s and is so good he goes straight into the 1st team squad, then the academy team have done their job.
Here’s my 11. Have probably forgotten someone obvious. Struggled with midfielders, so it’s a bit attack minded
. TBF though, with that defence we should be pretty solid! I reckon if could get a couple of midfielders on loan then this is a top half Prem team. It’s 4231. I did think about 5 at the back and putting Naughton as RWB but then you wouldn’t have Walker bombing up the right.
