Me n 2 workmates went to derby, we didn't have the radio on due to the driver being a porn addict and having tv screen on dashboard but the looks on the drivers faces when they looked over was priceless, a guy in a range rover was having a rite nosey till his missis in the passenger seat clipped him!Derby in around 2004? It was just before Christmas.
Peterborough in 2010.
Boro was December 1968, rearranged game was a month later, am posting the match report in the 1968-69 thread later this month. Don't think Spurs away in the 1970s was postponed? Must be 1960s? Were you thinking of Charlton in December 1968 or Palace in November 1972?Tottenham and Middlesbrough in the 70's. Travelled by coach only to be told 1 hour before kick off. Furious.
Ask jowett about hampden Park on our scottish tour to Inverness and morton. His farts don’t get any better too![]()
Was in the home end with my Dad for that one as he lived and worked in Hartlepool at that time and I was up for the weekend. Horrible amount of goals both ways to try and convince the locals that you're not a Blade! My all-time favourite away ground ever.
Always a great but dangerous trip , only time I've ever left a ground early when they battered us 6-0, they had some team back then . I think bruce rioch was manager .
One of my favourite games was the 3-3 draw there ..
You had to have balls of steel to drink on the linthorpe road in the yellow or red rose pub .
Yeah same here (2004), only happened to me the once and we heard just before M1 junction 28 so not too much of an inconvenience (in comparison to some horror stories on this thread).Derby in around 2004? It was just before Christmas.

I think I set off for the same game. We had just got on the M62 when we found out it was off and carried on the M62 and went to watch Blackburn v Rotherham. December 82 I think Rotherham lost 3-0.Probably 1983, I travelled over the Pennines for a night match at Bradford, only to discover the game had been called off due to a floodlight pylon falling over. The game was eventually played on a Sunday at the end of the season, so I think I’ve remembered it right.
Cheers mate .Did a few with you on fun bus from Handsworth league one days. Kids went free.. great gesture!
Are you sure it wasn’t torrential rain ? I went to the same « match » ? Cup match. I travelled from Sheffield but I was also living in ManchesterProbably 1983, I travelled over the Pennines for a night match at Bradford, only to discover the game had been called off due to a floodlight pylon falling over. FFS SW12 to S12 to S18 that Plymouth game called off through illness. I was chief - out of the way we're coming in your pub - officer for the London Blades in those days.Twice, that’s two times these days, to Plymouth, once rained off the other, illness in the United team. On both occasions we were in Plymouth for the weekend and already there.
Another occasion, a London weekend for Gillingham away on the Saturday and Reading away on the Tuesday. Gillingham snowed off then Reading cancelled due to a frozen pitch from memory. I tend not to do cancelled away games by half.
Few of us (self, Ian Elvin, Wally and Flanny, I seem to recall) went down to Plymouth on a Friday for this one. Spent Friday night on Union Street got up Saturday and went to a local pub near to where we were staying, had a few beers only to find out the game had been called off, so back on Union Street again on Saturday night too, great weekend!1981
I remember being on my way to this game, when it was announced over the tannoy at Sheffield station that it had been called off. Lots of other pissed off Blades had the same experience, judging by the collective groan that went up. Couldn't be arsed going to the re-arranged game, and have still never been to Pride Park.I had corporate tickets for Pride Park once, can't remember the year. I went to pick them up from a mate who worked at Morrisons at Derby. It was pissing it down big time, by the time we got to the ground about 1.30 it had been called off.
We'd got a babysitter and didn't want to waste the opportunity as we were suited and booted so went for a meal instead.
When they replayed it I didn't fancy driving cos the roads were iced up to fook so we didn't go.
Yes remember it well we got to Bradford and coppers told us match off ,the rearranged game was near end of season went on football special with about 100 on it absolutely pissed it down and coppers let us go on the little side bit think crowd was about 4000Probably 1983, I travelled over the Pennines for a night match at Bradford, only to discover the game had been called off due to a floodlight pylon falling over. This has happened to me 3 times in my 55 years as a blade.
First was a night game at scunthorpe at the old show ground around early 80s.
We got there early on a Tuesday evening through thick fog but heard nothing on the car radio to say the game would be called off.
Parked up went to a pub and was told by the landlord the game was off.
I wasn't old enough to drive back then but the bloke who had drove was going mad, it had been called off an hour before
Luckily I'd been twice before in 81/82 plus a friendly there .
Next up was leyton orient in the fa cup I think 2009 .
Went down by train arrived in East London around 10am , had a few pints and hundreds of blades were in the boozers when the coppers came in and said the game was off due to a frozen pitch . To say blades fans were angry is an understatement.
We had booked set times home on the train and ours was due to leave London around 8pm so we searched for a game to attend.
We had a choice , I think it was Barnet v grimsby which then got called off or yet another visit to millwall who were playing crewe in the fa cup.
I was sick of visiting the den but it was our only option . It ended an entertaining 2-2 draw but the funny thing was sitting with the crewe support , fair play crewe took around 200 noisy supporters but around 50 blades boosted crewe support . At half time everywhere I looked were blades I knew on the concourse including a blades flag and crewe fans were praising blades for backing them.
Last one was Peterborough away one freezing Saturday, again we arrived very early by train and took a real ale boozer over the brewery tap or something and dozens of blades flags hung on the balcony. We were told again near kick off by coppers the game was off again passing off huge numbers of blades.
With no game to go to we had a few pints and headed home , the coppers had made the train home alcohol free but a few of us got beers on board.
I managed to get to both re arranged games but it was costly .
One other I remember thinking that's it the games off was Portsmouth away the year the blades fan ran on the pitch at pompey and knocked the linesman clean out sparko.
There was a huge delay and word was going around it could be postponed.
Anyone else had similar ?
I drank in a boozer near the station after the game and there were glasses flying all over the place. My all-time favourite away ground ever.

The Reading game was pre-satnav and we were driving around looking for the floodlights! Finally got to the pitch black ground all locked up. Unbelievable JeffTwice, that’s two times these days, to Plymouth, once rained off the other, illness in the United team. On both occasions we were in Plymouth for the weekend and already there.

Not missing much pal.
