When I started following football in January 1970, my dad would take me to either Saltergate or to S6 if we werent able to go to a Blades away match. Saw the League Cup semi final replay between Stoke and West Ham at S6 also when Santos and Pele were there

Similar for me - although no-one took me I went by myself and made my own mind up. Saw about 6 games at S6 that season before thinking... sod it! Why am I watching this shite when I could be watching United? Absolutely NO comparison!

Still continued watching Chesterfield occasionally though. Harmless little club really.

I have for my sins, went from school in the mid 80's with some piggy mates. They were playing Derby in a midweek cup game, I flatly refused to go in the home end and stood in the away end on my tod and it was packed, shit game and pigs won 1-0, a certain Carl Bradshaw scoring (i think). Also remember a Derby fan launching a chinese star at Martin Hodge taking a goal kick, whistled past him and hit the side netting!!!

Been a few times to the sty when United weren't playing there. My Dad took me to the sty once (free tickets again through work) when they played Everton in the LC about 1977 (we'd lost to Everton in the previous round 0-3 at the Lane), the pigs lost 1-3 and I cheered every Everton goal. My Dad, a Blade, wasn't happy with this and kept telling me to shut up. I was probably oblivious to the funny looks I'd have been getting from pig fans near by! It was safe to say Dad only took me to United games after that. The other times where in Euro 96 Denmark v Croatia and then Denmark v Portugal, great to see the old swill decked out in red and white. Went once or twice when they had games there in the World Student games.

Went with the piggy in-laws once in the late 90s on boxing day. I don't recall the opposition but remeber both teams scoring. I felt very uncomfortable. Took the father-in-law to the lane in return a couple of years later

Went to an away match once with some piggie mates, v wigan in t cup I think,got in ground just after ko,only to see weds score from a lovely free kick,but no grunters were cheering,then I realised wigan also played in b/w stripes and pigs were in yellow change strip !
Think wigan were none lge at the time and won 1-0

My dad is a Wednesday fan, but he used to work Saturday's when I was a kid. So it's down to circumstances - living in S8, free tickets from school, mates going to Lane, etc that I'm a Blade. Could quite easily have turned out differently.
Even now my father in law is a Wednesday fan, although we don't go to Hillsborough, if Wednesday are on sky we'll generally go to pub (with my cousin as well) to watch it; although i'm secretly glad when they lose!

Santos game in 72 for me aswell...I remember it was a school day..think i just walked out of school and told my Dad they let me...went on the Kop still in school uniform if I remember right...Don't think Pele played the whole game...A player called Edu sticks out in my mind for some reason,along with wanting Santos to hammer them...Other than that,i've only set foot in there to see United.

I went with a mate v Man Utd 1974, (He was a Man U fan from Donny) and had a spare ticket for the North Stand

Well their kop was almost 100% Man Utd fans, the few Porkers were fighting for the lives in a corner by the South stand. Never seen a following as big. The game was 4-4 and I cheered every Man U goal

remember often catching the circular at manor top that went through darnall, brightside to and to the ground
saw some of wednesdays classic games , the 5-4 win over man utd a 7-0 romp over burnley a night european game against frankfurt, but was never once tempted to say Id follow the dark side.
Travelling away was less of an option in the early sixties for under 16 year olds so going to watch both was a viable option .It wasnt seen as a heinous crime to go and the first derby games I remember mingling on their kop as there was no segregation at all, when Birchenall scored both in a 2-0 win was able to tell owls around me how inferior they were on that occasion , in a really civilised manner.

Then it all changed with hooliganism , and I didnt go for about 4 years , just remember going to watch them last game v southend hoping to watch them drop into division 4 , but was disappointed

Forget exactly when but I was about 8 so in and around 1988.
We were playing Weeds away & my dad went. Leaving me with my pig supporting uncles.
I bought a Blades badge outside & sat on their Kop listening to our game on my Walkman!! We lost, they cheered all the goals against us but at least my dad was proud of me haha

Also got free tickets a few years later through Sunday league football, leppings lane end & went with a load of others in Blades shirts under our coats.... took our coats off soon as we went in!!

There are quite a few replies on another thread called 'The best time you ever had in S6' (or something similar). That's not a criticism, by the way. I went to plenty of neutral matches (World Cup, etc), or to watch the opposition. My worst moment was going to watch the great Spurs double-winning team in Nov 1961 - if I couldn't get to a Utd away match I tried to see Spurs in Manchester, Nottingaham, etc. They had gone about 16 games unbeaten, but lost (undeservedly) 2-1 in S6. They hardly lost a game that season, and I saw them win by big scores at Forest, Man City... But that was a bad day for the beautiful game.

Got a free ticket to see them play Wimbledon at home in 98 though my junior football team and was forced to go for the sake of being polite.

They lost 2-1 and were absolute shite. Think Joe Kinnear had a heart attack at half time. Result aside leaving the ground I remember thinking how glad I was to be a blade (despite being in the Div below at the time) as the overall 'experience' of going to watch them at the Theatre of Rust was so fucking miserable. Dreary ground falling to bits, dreary fans and no atmosphere bar the incessant whine of the pig band's brass section.

I've seen Wednesday about 8 times when United weren't playing, 6 home and believe it or not 2 away.

Weds v Rotherham, think it was 1976 or 1977, my Wednesdayite uncle took me. I was only a young kid and I think he was trying to persuade me to be a Wednesday fan but SWFC were terrible in them days. Everyone's at school seemed to support United as we were the more glamorous team.

Weds v Everton, mid 80's.
My family had visitors from Canada that wanted to experience an English football match.
I would have preferred to take them to see United but we were away and Wednesday were playing at home
It was the first match of the season and Wednesday had just put the roof on their Kop.

Weds v Arsenal, night match, mid 80's
Had some friends (some were Wednesday fans) that were going and the novelty of seeing Arsenal live was attractive.

Weds v Watford, 3 times in the mid and late 80's.
Had a friend at work who was a massive Watford fan. We all used to make annual trips to Hillsboro to see the Watford game sat in the main stand. I always jumped up when Watford scored.

Aston V v Weds, early 90's
A Wednesday mate had a free ticket going with free travel too and rang me the day before, so thought why not. Very different to the United away matches, more women and children and very little swearing.

Plymouth v Weds 2007ish
I was on holiday in Plymouth with a Wednesday friend and by coincendance Wednesday were playing. Didn't really want to go but there was a £5 ticket deal on for home and away fans, so went with my mate.
