🎶Let's talk about Peck baby🎶
Now I know a lot of you are outwardly "oh not arsed over it, we'll be in a relegation scrap if we qualify", but inside I know you're all wanting it.
Like all Blades I've witnessed the good, the bad and the Weir over the years (mostly the latter two!). I've seen us 45 minutes from an FA Cup final. I've seen us pip one of our strongest-ever contenders to promotion. I've seen the last-minute winners. The late equalisers. The promotions. The relegations. The agony and the ecstasy.
But one thing I've never seen us in is Europe. I wasn't even swimming round in my dad's bollocks when we last came closest to Europe. For so long getting an away point against Walsall on a rainy December night was about as exciting as it got. Until 2017 we hadn't even won any actual silverware in my lifetime. When people called us "sleeping giants" I used to think "Sleeping? Yeah, more like in a coma!" The Championship was another planet, yet alone Europe.
So I'm not going to say I won't flounce if we don't beat Leicester, because I probably will. Once again, we'dve most likely blown it, Wilder out etc. But qualifying for Europe will more than make up for all those midweek losses to the likes of fucking Rochdale and Stevenage. There are kids out there who'd never even seen us play in the Championship (for many years our natural level) until 2017.
Do it for them, Bladesmen. Do it for the Blades who've endured decades of everything from shit to mediocrity to oh-so-nearly. Do it for all the Blades who we've loved and lost, and all those Blades yet to come.
