I really only remember reading about this ages ago and I can't find much more recent news about it other than links from last year. Not sure how I feel about another competition to be honest.

Qualification from next season, so 7th this year gets Europa qualifying round not this abomination.

It's an absolutely shite idea and waters down what is already a watered down second tier of European competition.

UEFA Cup, good. Europa League, meh.

Europa Conference League? What is this? The Anglo Italian cup?

Hopefully it will die a death and be reabsorbed into the Europa League within a couple of years.

Honestly UEFA are cretins. They'll have the UEFA hyper conference soon so Barnet can play Sportfruende Dinkelsbühl on a Thursday night in Lithuania or something.

I don't mind it. As long as they don't make the super league which is rumoured, I'm fine

I can't disagree too much with what you say, as I say I still don't understand the implications, we still get the same europa league places, plus an additional spot for this?

That being said, it could be a decent idea with it adding more chances to get into Europe.

A club like ours can't compete on every front, as much as I would love us too, we have to pick our battles and so for now we are talking about survival and possibly a trophy which would be nice, but European football is on the list and I'm not sure I'd care how we got it.

The super league would die a death imo. The reason why the Scottish leagues do not do well is mostly down to how boring the leagues are having to play the same teams over and over.

I mean who knows but it just doesn't sound appealing to me in the slightest

So this is a sub-Europa league competition. The final Europa League place in the PL will now qualify for this bollocks instead, as if the Europa League wasn't bad enough. Even if you win the fucker people will take the piss. I preferred the InterToto.

The new format for TV will be:
Wednesday: UEFA Europa Conference League
Thursday: UEFA Europa League
Saturday: UEFA Champions League

Just as the Europa League winners qualify for the Champions League, the UEFA Europa Conference League winners will automatically be entered into the following season's Europa League

Just takes the prestige out of the other competitions for me. Playing in Europe was meant to be a prestigious achievement, now days any fucker can get into it.

Just another money making scheme from UEFA
Nope, same number of teams qualify as before. Only difference is that the last qualifying place in the PL doesn't qualify for the Europa League any more, it qualifies for this new competition, which, unlike the Europa League, will probably not have any "big names" in it.

Agree it's all about money though, and switching the Champions' League to Saturday nights
Isn’t it basically a re-hash of the Intertoto cup?
InteToto was a summer tournament, with clubs playing for a few places in the Europa League qualifying round.

I’m still trying to work out what the fuck the nations league is all about. I mean I kind of understand the reasoning behind it but did they really have to make it so complicated?

The Europa conference bollocks is a bit like the Paint pot trophy by the looks of it in that it’s designed to give the less prestigious clubs an opportunity to win a trophy but in this case it’s to play in Europe.

What actually will be likely to happen is one of the bigger clubs has a shit season and ends up winning this at a canter. In the same way as a bigger club winning the paint pot trophy, yes it’s a trophy but the fans don’t really wanna be in it and people will take the piss if they celebrate it properly.

Preferred the European (champions) cup
UEFA cup
Cup winners cup.
All as 2 leg, knock out cup competitions.

Once qualified the European Cup was easier to win because quite often the best teams weren’t even in it.
The teams competing were the best in the previous year not the current year.
You often never played anyone decent until the quarter finals....making it easier to win.
Also some seasons the Champions of the UEFA cup were a higher standard (that season) than the European Cup winners.

Where as the Champions League is guarantied to have the very best teams in Europe competing in it.
In the old European Cup you had the same teams retaining their title
whereas in the current format it’s much harder to retain the title.

Think it does need refreshing though....the group stages have become predictable and almost boring.

I get the intent, but it's shite.

Leagues below the 15th coefficient, e.g. Scotland, Sweden & Serbia - can no longer qualify for the Europa League, only this one. But they'd still get a place in the CL qualifiers 🤷‍♂️

The fairest way would be to include more teams in the Europa League Qualifying rounds with the losing teams dropping into this.

UEFA have basically dictated which countries they want in the Europa League

I reckon the Wednesday fans will be keeping an interested eye on it, you know, in a couple of years

EUFA only interest is self interest! It's all about making more money as they get a cut of all television coverage.
Not bothered how it effects domestic league football.I dont think they care a toss about our league football at all.
Pity we cant pull away from these fat cats sat in there ivory towers .
Rant over!!

I'm all for it. If there's one thing fans love it's more fixture congestion, more kick-off time disruption, at a point where fixture congestion is already meaning teams openly sack off the cup competitions they're already in. And all at the expense of a qualifying position for a better competition. Teams are sure to take it seriously knowing that the prize is qualification for something they could be in simply by finishing a single place higher in the domestic league.

One thing I don't understand though...if it's to get smaller countries/teams some European football, why would you stick a Prem team in there? Why not let them fight it out among themselves for the chance of Europa League football?

Not meant to be rude but have you just started following football, this is just what anyone should expect from UEFA 😂

As a fan of International Football, I absolutely love the UEFA Nations League. I don't get how people view it as complicated. It's the easiest tournament to understand in the world. In the 2019 version, you're in a 3 team league. You play the others home & away. The Top of the league gets "promoted". The bottom of the league gets "relegated". And, you play teams "of a similar standard". England played Spain & Croatia in their league. Won that. Got promoted to the final four & played The Netherlands & Switzerland. Much better than "another qualifier against San Marino". A league of three. One up. One down. What's complicated?

It used to be:

European Cup - only the champions of each nation qualified
UEFA Cup - for the second and third best teams in each league
Cupwinners' Cup - a simple European knockout cup for the winners of each nation's premier cup competition
