Thoughts on the kit?

Went down to the meadowhall store tonight as I fancied the yellow and brown retro shirt.

Fancied it a lot less when i found out it was 55 quid.....
I bought one the last time they reproduced them, must be 10 years ago, if not more. I've never worn it once.

Got a reproduction of one of the 70's one too which I've probably had for even longer. Never worn that either.

Oh I'd have worn it if the "reimagining" had included updated material. But it really doesn't.

It looks great, but IMHO it's a cheap polyester shirt that is at least 10 quid overpriced.

But it's subjective, retro is in and something is worth what you want to pay.

As an example, I went to Hemswell Cliff antiques centre a couple of weeks ago. In one of the places there was a pac man pinball machine. If I'd had the room, and the means of getting it back to Sheffield I'd have been in "take my money" mode..

Yeh £55 is far too expensive, retro is indeed in but it's just a rip off. I've got the 96-97 Avec shirt which is great, but the sizing is terrible so I can't wear it. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a Sheffield United shirt, it's worth nothing, I'd happily give that away to someone who wants it but Classic Football Shirts are selling it for £90, and they've only got one in a small!!!

I kind of get it. My take is that as.the world turns to shit, retro has never been more relevant than it is now. Happier times,.whether that's a football shirt,.or a Saturday night in a Chapel St Leonards machine arcade kicking your dad's ass at asteroids.

It's.just that this particular piece.of retro is a bit rich for my blood thats all......

Was it a full on proper pin ball machine or just some desktop type thing?

I've just Googled 'Pac Man pinball machine' and the first result was one for £800, which I've just noticed is "virtual pinball" so basically just an LCD screen.

Only £5,795 for this though!

It was a proper full on, bona Fide pinball machine. It wasn't plugged in so I was assuming it worked. To a pinball fan and a pac man fan, it was a thing of beauty. No hyperbole, I wish I could have bought it.......

I bought one of each and both still have the labels on. Material is crap.

Will our white kit clash with any opposition kit in the first 5 games?

I'd buy for 30.

I don't buy the new shirts for exactly the same reason, it's an obscene amount of money.

No shirt ever has been worth the price.

But I'd say modern materials have narrowed the quality gap a little.

I bought the orange keepers top a while ago for a short sojourn into 5 a side and I really like it

Tonight I picked up the retro shirt and it just felt poor.

What would happen if the team doesn't have the kit on Monday?
play in that white strip or be forced to wear Watfords away kit?
I presume we will have it but is there a ruling when it comes to situation like this.

Skins…

Think they will have to apply to the EFL for special dispensation to use the white shirt if that’s not in the nominated shirts.

We did it when we used a different shirt for the last game of the season over the years - showcasing the following seasons shirt.

I thought so too. I'd have said 40-45 tops. I didn't dare ask how much the Tracky tops were
Mine were always bought just cos and so my son can have them in years to come (assuming he grows to 6ft 5 🤣). I’ve got an original with tags of the 90-92 home shirt for the same reason.

The club will look a bunch of cunts.....again.

We are one of 19 clubs that haven't managed to get ANY kits sorted. That's a much smaller % than those that have. So I do have a point.

Of the United World clubs we seem to be the only ones not managing to get any sorted with the French and Belgians done and dusted (not sure about the Indian's and UAE team).

There are plenty of clubs with Errea who have managed to get kits sorted, so the 'supply chain issues' must just apply to us?!

The point still stands that the club has missed out on money and the kit is obsolete in less than 12 months time, so missing a month of selling time is a bit of a poor show.
French & Belgian clubs got there’s.I could be way off here , but does it help that they are part of the EU and the kits are coming from Italy ?

Didn't Man Utd have a reversible away kit in the early 00's? Pretty sure one side was gold and other was black or white?

I had it. Think it was in the days of Veron / Barthez.
White one side, gold the other. 2000/01.

I remember it felt weird on because you could feel the print of the badge & sponsor if you wore it with the gold on the inside.
If you wore it with the white on the inside the badges were embroided.. so itched your nips.

Yep, all with Errea.

I know the excuse to this is “they weren’t subject to a takeover” or “ours is bespoke”.

I don’t believe either is valid.
The takeover argument isn't valid in my opinion. Takeovers can take months. So at what point, hypothetically speaking, would the club have said "hold on we need a kit, are you buying us or not?". So no, takeover stuff is rubbish.

Bespoke - so? Again, makes no odds. Still needs making. As I've said, there isn't even a picture of it. Surely they could have sent half a dozen for the players to model, quick photo, done. We don't have a photo even from the factory which is alarming. Or are the club doing the usual stuff of keeping everything very quiet and keeping us in the dark for no reason whatsoever?
