I suspect it’s partly because for a long period of time only the same four clubs got into the CL or won the league. So, unless they were prepared to give an English manager a chance, it was difficult to step up from being a Dyche to a Pep. Klopp, for example, was able to get the Dortmund job, where he won the league and got to a CL final. Why would you choose any English manager over a manager with that kind of track record?
If you’re a big club in the PL, you’re looking at choosing from the top twenty managers in the world. It’s not that likely that many of those will be English, why would they be?
