Even if he doesn’t give a shit about United, surely playing in the “greatest league in the world” should be enough motivation to put the effort in (even if it’s just to put yourself in the shop window). Maybe he’s just not as good as a lot of us thought, and he’s come to that realisation himself. Move abroad seems the most likely.

He is a talented player at a club with zero ambition that he has no real affinity for, its understandable that his head has dropped this season.

You could have played john stones in that team and he would have looked shit
It's a shit situation but it's for him to make the best of. He was one of our best players last season and I can't hold it against him if he sees us as a steping stone, but his attitude as a profesional this season is not understandable or excuseable. If he's better than the club then he needs to show that by not making individual errors and by putting his all into games, maybe then someone would actually come in for him. Chucking the towel in like that just makes him look childish and he's wasted an opportunity to show off some of his undeniable quality while simultaniously pissing off the fans and manager at his current club.

I feel like this match is confirmation that Anel did not give a flying fuck for us this season.

Amazing player, he makes it look effortless.

Less than 30 mins in and he's already mugged off most of their defence/midfield
A few minutes ago when he was dribbling through their side was sensational. Also always pressing or running. What a player

Pretty much the Anel we know, cant defend against elite level players
One hurried hoof up the line, twice done by quicker players who he brought down

Apparently to make them fit to their legs better/release tension where they're a bit too tight. Think it's mostly a bollocks trend though.
It is bollocks. Many of them who do it have calfs like sparrows. Socks stretch anyway. Another shit fad, like when robbie fowler started using those nose things, viera and his rubbing vicks (i said vicks!) on his top etc etc!

It isn’t understandable at all. It’s not unreasonable to expect every player who pulls on our shirt to give it everything that they can, regardless of circumstances. I’m sure he’s keen enough to pick up his pay cheque. He’s also representing the interests of the fan base, who turn up home and away to watch him.
John Stones might well have looked poor in a defence as weak and disorganised as ours was last season, but I can guarantee that he would never have gone missing or dropped his head. That’s one of the reasons why John Stones plays for Manchester City, while Anel will only fantasise about it.

Anyway...back on topic....what a tedious first half!

With all the money swilling about in football you would have thought kit manufacturers could cater for different sized calf muscles?

Just spotted a certain large midweek fc fan behind the goal..giving anel some grief perhaps?

Always thought Gallagher was massively overrated - he's liked pretty good tonight. Maybe weak opposition

Anel goes off in 82nd and then they concede 2 before 90. Add £10 mill to his price tag, lads.

Got some of his shirt pulling and pass aways in again, as usual.

a wins a win, but friendly being boring is more an of issue with the club season creeping closer to euros. 12 yrs ago there was a 3 week gap from final club game to the opening game of the euros. now we're asking Bellingham to go from a Champions League Final to getting on a plane for england within 7-8 days

& so we had to put out a B side because of injuries, people from the 2 cup finals joining late

Although I agree with the “overworked” approach that is currently being shown in the media by players and some coaches on the flip side for £100,000s a week plus bonuses and sponsor deals etc and be super rich and comfortably retired by mid 30s if not earlier it’s difficult to have sympathy. The only real change in the domestic game is to make the League Cup a U23s competition or tinker with European competitions (UEFA ain’t going to have that) plus there is that proposal for an extended team World Cup too which
I can see happening with Saudi likely getting 2032

Hi Stegosaurus here

I would say getting paid 30k a week should be motivation enough.

Manager is to blame for letting him take the piss. If I was in charge, as soon as a player stopped putting the effort in like Anel he'd be dropped for someone from the reserves. Teach him a lesson

Who the fuck does he think he is isn’t just playing in the world’s best league a privilege.
He should have been dropped and train with the U18 s

Nah, we made him captain instead and then he kicked off about the colour of the armband 😂

Let's be reight though, the financial incentive that we fans believe should motivate a player to perform doesn't tally up with the thoughts of the modern day footballer.
We've currently got players stalling over contract offers who don't believe they should accept a drop in wages despite being part of one of the worst football teams in Premier league history, and in some cases, only managed to keep themselves fit and available for a small portion of the season.
I'm not excusing the contract mess that our owner has presided over because it's a joke way to run a club, but the idea that a player will be motivated solely by their wages is sadly not true.
