Agree with you here and what immediately sprung to mind would be Germany World Cup. We played Trinidad and Tobago in Nuremberg. Before the match we toured the Nazi War Museum along with T&T fans and showed great respect to the awful memories. Once in the ground it becomes and football match and rivalry.
Afterwards we walked through the grounds where Hitler held his rallies showing respect for the surroundings.
To this day the 3 weeks I spent in Germany were bloody brilliant, camping out the middle of nowhere. We played cricket and got German holiday makers involved, teaching them the rules.
I didn't follow England solely for the games but to see a very small piece of the World as well. Show respect, try the food, try the language, embrace the culture.
