given that nathan thomas has had his medical agreed personal terms etc and the same applies for enda stevens i can see us announcing it as a double signing either that or were delaying announcing it for a bit because portsmouth players might still be celebrating their title win was only last week

Aye I'm sure you're right on this. I just was concerned that another club or Pompey had increased their wage offer. Stevens is probably a starter next season as opposed to a squad player and I expect him to be an improvement on Lafferty, even though Lafferty has done well. Defensively I would like an improvement on Lafferty.

I can't remember who it was from which game but he got skinned almost every time? It was probably Mendez Laing v Rochdale and I just wonder how good he will be at stepping up. Don't get me wrong, I like Lafferty, he's a great pro and has done a solid job for us last season complete with numerous assists and the odd goal but I think that in the Championship he might be lacking against the better wingers whereas Pompey fans say Stevens is outstanding defensively and decent going forward too. We'll see mate.

Those are my thoughts as well. I thought that Lafferty looked a bit sloppy when he first got in the side, a bit careless on the ball. But he really grew into it and I think that he's played a key role for us down the left, especially in that overlapping role going forward and whipping some good crosses in and not least of course, he's scored a few goals as well. However, I posted before, I'd be a bit concerned about him in the defensive role because he's going to be facing a lot faster and more skilful wingers than he's had to cope with in League 1 - and the example given about how he/we struggled to cope with Mendez-Laing is a good one. So a good defender at left back, someone who can stick to a player like glue and force them wide or get a strong tackle in, is going to be important for us and it sounds like this Enda Stevens bloke could be it? I can see Lafferty playing an important part for us all the same, but I think he'll be interchanged with Thomas fairly regularly, with Thomas being the choice if we are looking to open teams up and Lafferty being the choice if we want to slow the game down and control possession.

That's not what the word on the grapevine is saying. He's been reported as "setting his heart on joining United" - so if that's true it's all about the contract and I wouldn't read anything into the timing - it's still early yet!

Agreed and it will be really interesting to see how he is going to play Thomas too and any other winger signing. Every team in the Championship will have someone of Mendez Laing's ability or better so I just am not sure yet on Lafferty but he'll certainly play his part too.

I read Mike's twitter feed actually because I don't want to be trawling through all the gossip and rumours on Twitter and he often does post stuff that I'm not aware of and I think one or two others have said the reason Stevens hasn't been confirmed is because he's away with the Pompey squad.

I'm not really bothered whether he's formerly Strap on or not it was quite unsavoury the comments going round between Herbert and Mike on Twitter and Bladesmad. We're all Blades fans and I know that means we won't all get on I'd like to see us respect each other on the forums etc irrespective of what forum or twitter account we are.

I know what you're saying Eddie, I know Mike can be to the point and has a go at people on here but to me its obvious that it comes from people saying stuff on here and about Strapon and to be fair that can't be proved however sure a few were at the time. You're right though that Mike doesn't speak with respect to those on here etc. I just don't feel its helpful to go back to it and rather look at the positives of Mike and Max. Not sure if that makes sense mate!?

If you claim to be in the know then you do put yourself out there to be shot at and that's happened to a few I can think of. I remember questioning E89 I think he was called on Blades Mad as I didn't think what he said was particularly insightful and he shot me down in flames just for questioning his info. It kind of took a different direction re the whole Strap on debate but I enjoy reading people who express their views on United like Steve Cowens, Kevin Gage etc as well as Mike and Max. I take ITK stuff with a pinch of salt and enjoy the rumours as just that but it is annoying if you get your hopes up on a rumour and then it turns out to be nothing but I don't take them as gospel.

I agree that most of us enjoy seeing rumours and the like if we think there's a good chance there's an element of truth.

There's a few on social media who like to portray themselves as well in the loop without much to back it up however other than the odd snippets.

They soon become the goto person for a few and seem to develop an ego and then can't cope with being challenged when they either post something and say nothing, or tie themselves in knots.
