If I want an atmosphere I go to a lively bar. I want to be able to watch the match and see what's happening at the game. I hate having a shit view.

Eh, What shit view ?

End of an era for us yesterday. Mum passed away after 5 years with dementia. After watching this afternoon's performance I realised that Bill Shankly got it so wrong.

Keep your head up, blade.i.am - I lost my mum in August, then my brother in November.

To quote Winston S.Churchill, "keep buggering on" mate.

Moved into the South Stand a couple of years after my oldest was born. I suspect like many people, I tried taking him on the Kop (towards the back) a few times, but eventually realised I didn't fancy the workout of lifting him above my head 30 times a game every time the ball comes anywhere near the goal.

For a while the atmosphere in G/H was great. Lots of banter/singing/etc, but that's died away over time. Seriously thinking about moving back to the Kop now my oldest is 13 (I can switch seats when taking the younger kids), so will probably go in the opposite direction next year. Any recommendations for gangway?

Gangway D is behind the goal. Been there since we put seats on Kop. Wouldn't move elsewhere.
As mentioned earlier can see pattern of play/tactics from there - but that doesn't normally enhance the mood these days !!

My favourite place, further towards the back, obviously. I understans the view will be better above the half way line, but never mind, this is the place for me. Hoping for me and HB Jnr to get our ST somewhere in the region.

You are so right. That's why I don't understand my emotional state the last few days. We too have accepted the loss of the person we knew and loved a while ago so I expected a sense of relief rather than loss. Weird.

My father in law died after a long, long decline into dementia. We were mostly relieved it was all over but there was a sense of loss as well - even though the man we knew had left the building long since.

I think the sense of loss in my wife was because, underneath it all, she woke up every morning hoping somehow that in the night her Dad had got better.

Where there's life there's hope, and she never quite shook off the last vestiges of hope. She's not religious but one day on holiday in Italy, before her Dad died, we were in a church (as you do in Italy) and she went over and lit a candle. I didn't have to ask why.

Remember the good times. The memories of them while they were ill will fade - the brain archives them I think and brings the better ones to the front.

It's finally over. Best wishes to your family.

Excellent post Crouchy and having lost some family members to it I can totally endorse your comments.

As there is a family history of dementia then I may get it one day.

Whilst we have no idea what it is really like for the dementia sufferer, my hope is that they are happy in their world even though we can't comprehend how it is for them.
