email from club - NO MORE TICKETS ON SALE IN KOP - standing & wrong seat usage

Of course people should sit in their seats and not block exits.

That said, this is a huge overreaction that will cost the club a lot of money and make the atmosphere worse (let’s remember how important the kop was in our come back against Norwich).

I wonder if any one ever stands at Swillsborough?

SAG can’t see the East Stand at Swillsborough from their seats presumably.

It's an 'all-seater' stadium.

You can't just choose to stand. People do, but if it's causing a problem, then they shouldn't

You pay your money, you're entitled to sit in your designated seat. End of.

There are a lot of people nowadays who seem to think rules don't apply to them and that they're entitled to do what they like.

A lot of people don't seem to care how their actions impact on others.

I'm tall. Sitting in a seat for 45 minutes is painful. It is on a bus, in the theatre/old school cinema, train etc. I like it or lump it.

At the start of this season, kop season ticket holders should have been given the opportunity to create a singing section (other names can be applied) by re-arranging seats. People should have been actively helped to relocate etc. I imagine though that people would have missed the deadline due to poor organisation!
My mate and me have season tickets on the kop.

My grandson comes to me circa 8 games a season via a matchday ticket and sits close by me - never got him a junior season ticket as he is away at his dads in Leicester every other weekend which makes a season pass nonviable.

His dad is a Villa fan and takes him to an occasional game at Villa Park but his heart is genuinely red and white.

Just told him what SUFC have announced.

To say he is devastated is an understatement.

A sad day

Tarks
I would say a junior season ticket would cost less than 8 match tickets…not sure if you can still buy?

Fuck payin' mi council tax now... Well most of it. Just need 3-4k other people to do it as well.

Maybe the silver lining in all this is that it might persuade United to pull their finger out and build us a new kop. Redesign it so it's not really possible to congregate a crowd in gangways. Give us a bloody standing section!!!

doubt it

SUFC never fail to disappoint .. 4 weeks ago we were four points clear at the the top and looking certs from promotion , now we are four points behind top two, the club has gone to war against its own fans fans and we face the real threat of a quarter of the stadium being closed… well played United 👏👏
Where do you get 'a quarter of the stadium being closed 'from? That is roughly 8,000 seats.
It is clear that the problem is overcrowding in certain areas of the Kop and then persistsnt standing( including blocking stairs ). The club hasnt said you cant stand at any time.
The club must know the areas if concern. Just net those areas off and the fans with STs in these areas are allocated elsewhere.

They obviously don’t like United averaging not far off 30k in the 2nd tier while the pigs lag far behind. Only way they can even it up.
It's clear that the Pitsmoor idiot and Tango are behind this.

Would sort it all out if we just introduced some safe standing areas in the ground or on the KOP.
You do realise that you are alloczte a space to stand? You would still have problem of some fans not standing in their allocated space

Yes, people who buy tickets in the most atmospheric part of the ground and demand those infront of them sit down, just 8 rows from the back, are responsible for killing the atmosphere in the Lane. Why they choose to buy tickets so close to the back to then sit down and moan at people for standing I have no clue.
And because of this people have to cram in behind as there isn't enough rows for the folk who do want to stand.
I think you’ve sort of hit the nail on the head here, regarding the standing at the back.

There’s an evident over demand of people wanting to stand, above the capacity “unofficial” standing area of the Kop (or whatever it is). Proof if it was needed that we do need to have a safe standing section. If there’s currently 1,500 people stood in a space for 1,000, then create a safe standing area for 1,500 people (so in theory using a 1:1 ratio, 50% larger than where people currently stand). I guarantee you’ll not have people cramped together at more than 1 to a seat then

You do realise that you are alloczte a space to stand? You would still have problem of some fans not standing in their allocated space
But the difference is that you’re currently designate a space to sit. If you were designated a place to stand, you wouldn’t need to vacate your seated area for this ‘soft’ version of a standing area that we have at the back.

Too many to move to the rest of the ground if the council shuts it!
Unless they relax rules on JSS and allow season ticket holders on BLUT, but it still may not be enough.

The kop holds more than a third of our home end capacity, so it’s going to screw the club over massively.

I thought they were talking about bringing in “safe standing” for the back half of the kop anyway?

“Gone to war against its own fans”

Did you actually read the statement?

You've never noticed the back rows of the kop all have people stood up as well as into the gangways..?

I personally don't view it as a problem but some obviously do.
I sit towards the kop on the south stand so although I can see that area is packed, I wasn’t aware people stand in the gangways as it’s the far side from me

one of the problems is that we have a number of people who have had season tickets at the back of the kop ( singing / standing section ) for years. They have no wish to give up their seat as when people sit down it is a good seat, subsequently why should they move to a seat in an inferior position within the kop stand.
the only logical solution is to create a standing area at the back of the kop and then ask people to choose new seats for the whole kop, with those who have had their seats the longest to be given priority of choice from the start of next season.

United should make the back 10 rows of the Kop safe standing. Do it now. It would be a quick and cheap intervention.

Assist anyone in this area to relocate season tickets if they want or need to sit. If you remain as a standing ST holder or buy a standing ticket you know what to expect. Manage this area properly, with experienced stewards and a couple of police officers, which would be at the club's expense. Check tickets, eject those that refuse to sit in their correct seats. This would allow those who want to stand to be able to do so safely.

Obviously there may be practicalities to consider, safety trials etc, that mean this takes some time to phase into full operation, but the club have just part closed the stand anyway, so need to do something now.

This can be monitored and more standing rows added in future to ensure standing capacity reflects demand and no one who wants to stand has to be in a seated area.

Fans have always stood at the back of the Kop, the fact safe standing here has not been implemented already is a massive oversight by all concerned if the issue has been known for a while, and would have prevented all this.

Likewise the local authority are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Suppose a serious accident occurs - they will be first to cop for the blame.
What serious incident could possibly happen? Apart from I suppose scraped knees. The worlds gone mad, when you compare the near crushes we use to accept in the 80’s.

I’m all for free choice, if people want to stand then stand if people want to sit then sit. We should cater for the wishes of most fans and respect their wishes as long as it’s relatively safe of course.

If you want to take it to extremes the steps on the Kop are unsafe because you can fall down then and suffer injuries.

Last time I got a letter of warning like this was when I was 15 and got caught wi some lads having a smoke round back of annex at school.

It was all going well and my brother was backing me up…………then he decided to tell mi mother I didn’t smoke but finger banged some lass called Charlotte behind annex.

I suppose what am trying to say is fuck off council and SUFC stop triggering memories !!

Smoker or Smokee?

Asking for a friend.

You do realise that you are alloczte a space to stand? You would still have problem of some fans not standing in their allocated space

You are allocated an area of the stand, not a specific seat, if a safe standing area is in standing configuration.
