Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson has placed Li Tie on the transfer list and admitted failure in a bid to lure Chris Eagles back to Sheffield.

The former England captain is under pressure after a poor start to his tenure at Bramall Lane and he admitted at the weekend that some of his players are not as good as he thought they were.

Due to the small size of his squad, there will not be a fire-sale at the South Yorkshire club but the ex-Everton midfielder is on his way out.

"Li Tie is still here but he's not in my plans," confirmed Robson to The Sheffield Star. "He can leave on a free transfer."

The Blades boss had hoped his former chief Sir Alex Ferguson would grant him a favour by loaning Eagles for a short spell in the wake of Manchester United's Carling Cup exit.

The youngster has already had a loan stint at Sheffield Wednesday earlier in his career but is on the fringe of the first team at Old Trafford and unlikely to be off-loaded.

"Hopefully I can bring a few loan players in," commented Robson.

"You always keep working on that, you can always improve.

"Eagles is a very good player but I don't think Sir Alex will be letting him out."

Could of given him a chance Robbo.

We are lacking in midfielder's and we let him go.

Even if he is still lacking match fitness anyone is better than no one right now.

he's had plenty of time to stake a claim on being considered though, i'd rather one of the youngsters be given a chance.

Well we havnt got a choice but play a youngster now since we are going to lose another player.

I agree Li Tie was/is crap anyway, would rather see a young un' given the chance.

To be honest buying him was more of a marketing move with the Chinese links rather than to play him.

Tho only reason to sign him was to show the Chinese we are jolly good chaps. We could have signed a decent Chinese player, but Fatty Robinson probably had some kind of Chow Mein discount factored into the contract.

Ronaldo, Giggs, Park and Nani are ahead of Eagles in the United squad. You could even argue Rooney and Anderson could play in similar positions to where he plays. And now that they are out of the Carling Cup, I can’t understand why he can’t come on loan?

Also I didn’t rate Li Tie whatsoever so we’ll probably end up benifitng by his loss and bring in someone decent.

I've just received this offical text from Sheffield United:

Blades make U-turn on future on Li Tie after reports suggested midfielder has been released. "The club is backing him to get fully fit."

thought Robson said on radio Sheffield this week that Li Tie is not in his plans and is free to find another club?

have anything to do with the new fitness coach?

Well he was decent for Everton until he got injured and since then has gone down hill. If someone can help him regain fitness and form he could be a decent midfielder for us. That is if he hasn't been released already.

*edit*

BLADES HOLD ON TO LI

Sheffield United have made a U-turn on the future of midfielder Li Tie.

The China international, who is currently injured, was reported to have been told by manager Bryan Robson that he would be free to leave the club whenever he wants.

However, the club have confirmed on their official website that he will remain a Blades player until his contract runs out in June next year.

"The club is still backing him to get fully fit and resume his career that has been hampered by injury," said the statement.

Injury has affected the 30-year-old since his move to Bramall Lane from Everton and he has only made one appearance for the club since arriving in July 2006.

"He has still maintained his place in China's squad and, owing to him being unable to play for any other English club due to his work permit, the Blades may well loan him to a Chinese club to enable him to get match-fit ahead of next summer," continued the statement.
