They can't really slag off their default targets Scougall and Sharp anymore so the fire has been concentrated on Matt Done. It was always going to happen.

Done played in every one of the first win-less 5 games. If you're going to look into the stats make sure you include that one. The most important stat though is the fact he's been played as a striker in every game and only scored twice and we're half way through the season. That should tell everyone all they need to know. We can't rely on him as a striker, simple as. If you want to play him for all the other things he brings to the team, fine, then play him, but not as a striker. You need 2 players up top who can put the ball in the net. We've got one so far. We need to give both Lavery and Clarke a chance to show what they can do with an extended run in the team. I thought Lavery was unfortunate not to get the nod yesterday considering his excellent performance when coming on v Coventry. I think it was the right tactical move to bring Clarke on yesterday though as we needed a more physical presence up front.

If Done was to start every game from now till the end of the season do you think we'd get promotion? And do you think Done would get more than 5?

If either of the answers are no it's clear we need to improve

A striker with 2 goals to his name in January when being a first team regular. Absolutely pathetic.

This is a bizarre exchange. You say Done is awful, I asked for stats in matches he's played, you refuse and say you don't care what the stats say and anyway, you only judge him on 1/2 games.

You ask if I think we'll be promoted with Done/Sharp and if he'll score more than 5 goals, I answer yes and yes to which you reply that I clearly don't want us to go uP and I'm happy in League One. I call this out to be the steaming dog turd it is and MY response is idiotic?

Agree 100% with this post. Done's work rate cannot be faulted, he runs himself ragged every game, but if he is starting up front he needs to be scoring more goals in my opinion.

I think we need another striker, but only if we can find one that would do what he does (run into spaces, and create space by drawing defenders out of position) AND score goals as well. Personally I don't think we need Ched (we have a striker who has hit 16 in 23, and is on target for 30+) and I'm not sure he will do what Done does these days (though he would probably score more).

If I was CW, I'd have a list of potential targets, and I'd be sitting down with Billy and asking him, as captain, main striker and leading scorer (in the division, not just for us) which of these players he (Sharp) thinks he would gel with, and play the best alongside. If that is Ched, then go get him. If it is someone else, then forget Ched and get in whoever Billy thinks will allow him to continue scoring, as well as chipping in with (ideally) 10-15 of their own in the second half of the season.

Just my 2p-worth mind, but I think Billy's input on this would be valuable.

Bottom of the league they might be, but Oldham came with a game plan and to a man they worked their rocks off in that 1st half, closing us down all over the pitch and rendering our midfield pretty ineffective. We need some players who can do the same, and Matty Done is certainly one of the best at doing just that. Yet again he pressured defenders and the goalkeeper to boot out anywhere balls that were picked up by us. I've not forgotten (since it was not so long ago, but too long for some) what happened to us on many occasions last season in similar situations - we ended up drawing/losing games we should easily have won. We don't have wingers, but the best cross in the 90 minutes was from Done and it should have been converted. In the 2nd half once again the opposition gradually ran out of legs and we looked different class. Job Done...........Done Job

The introduction of fresh legs and a different attacking approach can tip the balance

Oh absolutely, I would never leave it entirely down to him. I just feel that given how well he is doing this season, some input from him on who he would prefer (from a list pre-determined by the manager, as stated in my previous post) could go a long way towards keeping him happy and scoring. Surely if we are going to sign an improvement on Done, as I feel we should, then their ability to gel with the player who is on track to hit 30+ for us this season should be a consideration.

(And I never mentioned Sharp picking the team. I'll leave that entirely up to CW/AK, as they're doing a good job of it so far, if results are owt to go on)

Everyone wants an improvement in every single position , and that includes the front two , who doesn't ?

At this moment in time , however , the only way we can improve is by waiting until the JTW opens and bringing someone else better in than what's currently available .

For now though the best that we have are playing in the majority of games . Sharp and Done are Wilder's preferred option . If it's good enough for him it's good enough for me .
