you know who i am talking BT do you think it would be beneficial for him to sign for us?? Simple YES or NO will do fine.

If he's fit and doesn't want shitloads of cash to buy new alloys, then yes, otherwise no.

But given that i don't know his fitness, or how much he wants i can't really say yes. Or no. :)

There was a rumour some time ago that he wanted 12k, let's assume that'll be his wage for this season.

If he is fit then certainly and the only concern previously with other clubs is any injuries he is carrying.

Can't see us wasting a wage on an unfit player so assuming he is fit your answer is yes??

if if the answer to both the above is yes, then it's a resounding yes from me.

What if the other option is the singings of a quick, young winger and a quick, young striker, both for 6k? Still a no brainer?

Time to raid the basket case that is HOM. Not sure on the striker, but Templeton, Driver or Sutton are better wingers than what we have, or have had for a number of years and they'll be cheap now.

If this is to be the last signing of the season because it uses up our budget then NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

If this is to be the first of a number that will improve the overall squad by adding pace and skill to the middle of the park and on the flanks WITHOUT bankrupting the whole club then YEEEEEEEEEES.

I'd rather us sign a striker with some pace instead. Possibly on loan with a pre-arranged move for January.

Just can't help thinking he will spend more time on the treatment table than he will on the pitch

If he does sign, I hope any contract is based around a 'pay as you play' deal

The other reservation I have, is that most players who return for a second spell at our club, very often disappoint. Will BT be one of those? I hope not, but I'm not confident that will be the case

Phillips, Clarke and Grabban would do nicely for me. All young and possibly on the way up :)

Bt, may do it. May not. Getting on in years and probably on the way down. :shakehead:

ps: Can't the poll have an undecided/indifferent vote?

Can't make my mind up on this one

Its not as simple as Yes/ no.

Its ensuring that we don't end up with another Marcus Bent.

Bent, was a decent striker in his day, but when he came to us he looked past it, unfit and a shadow of his previous self. A shame really.

BT, as many have pointed out is avaiable because he's unfit and expensive.

Time for a Swiss Tony moment:
BT in this division is like buying a vintage champagne on the first date with a bird from Carlisle.

You know that you've a fair chance of getting in her knickers, but do you push the boat out and go for the good stuff, knowing full well that you'll get a 100% guaranteed shag just because its expense.

Or do you take her to Yates' get a cheap bottle of Spumante and hope that she'll put out just because she's pissed.

Always option 2 for me as it avoids the expectation of having to repeat the value exchange in future. And on the subject of BT, I'd have the same approach - if he'll prove himself for next to nowt then I'll happily pay if he comes off. If he wants the full champagne treatment I reckon we should carry on looking for slappers.

Please please dear sweet Jesus our lord and saviour in heaven above let him sign and we can have done with the "will he/won't he", "should we/shouldn't we" bullshit.

It's been going on longer than Ross and Rachel.

I don't think James Beattie has become a bad player in within a couple of years.

I think James Beattie at League 1 level will tear this division a new arsehole. From what i can remember of James Beattie everything about him told me he was a class player, and a class act.

He was amongst the fittest players at the club, despite being on a huge wage his attitude was quality, and he was well liked amongst the players, supporters and management. Sometimes footballers just click at a certian club, and i think this is one such example.

He certianly doesn't need the money any more, so i would suggest that he may be coming in for less than what people might think, and carrying on because he enjoying footballing rather than screwing a quick buck.

depends if this quick young winger is lets say post injury Jamie Ward, he's still quick and young and would probably take 6k

But he never was really quick was he? I'd bet a lot of money on Phillips to beat him comfortably over any sprint distance. We really love a departed hero don't we? Let's drag 'Cotts' off whatever bench he's sitting on and bring him back as well, shall we?

If, hypothetically, we could get Phillips, Clarke and Grabban for the price of a Beattie the arguments (as opposed to the sentimentality) are all one way, aren't they?

I distinctly remember there being a large group of fans that didn't like him and were constantly on his back saying he was lazy and that he didn't look interested.

Given he's better than any wide player on the books, that's a very good idea.

They are if that (or a similar swoop) is a realistic scenario. If it isn't, for whatever reason, I'd take a fit Beattie over Evans, Cresswell or Porter.

Yes they are but we wont get Phillips Clarke and Grabban for the same as Beattie.
Pace is good but skill is better. As already said would you rather have beattie on the end of a cross or Porter?

No point making non-arguments against imo.

If he's fit, up for it and willing to play for a reasonable salary, then get him signed.

The suggestion that we could sign younger, hungrier and cheaper players etc is a non-starter.

Which hypothetical players are we proposing? I dont see anyone realistic that we could go for!

Anyone suggesting Phillips and Clarke should refer to Holloway's recent comments.

Beattie is available and better than anything we have on the books at the moment.

Speculating about his proposed salary doesnt make any of the above untrue.

Yes for me please.

The ammount of crosses we have put into the box for them to be left unchallenged amazes me at times, sure we've had the odd one or two that have been challenged for and Evans grab a corking header from one of them, But unlike Cressyand Evans Beattie won't be dragged out wide, so we'll constantly have a threat in a strikers role.

Sign him in time for Saturday. Must be fit enough to play at least an hr or start on the bench.

If he's lost at least 2 stone and is willing to put a shift in every game, then he's worth having in any team, at this level, even in the Champ

Pace is good but skill is better.

11 Kevin McDonalds would see us relegated to the fourth division, as would 11 Luton Sheltons.

Skill, pace, height, strength, creativity, fitness, work rate. We need them all, and as we can't afford "complete" players, we should try to build a team and squad that gives us a bit of everything. With a limited budget it would be a good idea to add qualities that we currently lack, and preferably go for young players that can get better.

Yes but what good is a pacey winger if he cant cross or pass a ball?
