Do you think we can still make the play-offs?

Im going for a glorious last match loss & finish in 7th. (after being 1 point behind) & 6th placed team also loosing!

Its the Blades Way!

so who's idea was it to christen yer Pinchy? :D

It's a long and tedious story, to do with a lobster! I'd rather like to change it now, because it's not been used for about a decade and I'm known by a completely different nickname now. You lot would love it!

How about it, Foxy?

I know I don't take a lot of notice of any football not relating to the mighty Blades these days, but did I miss our Nige taking the sheep shaggers down three divisions into the Conf.?

Stop being pedantic ( :)).

Lets just hope and if Morgan anything to do with it we just might? Okay reality just kicked in, been a Blade to long to be spouting rubbish, SORRY!

Well i think it's safe to assume Peterborough, Wolves and Orient (or Lorient as i call em) are going to be in the top 6. Brentford are gathering a tiny bit of form and probably will be in there too, Preston look like being in the mix. So that leaves one spot. Not convinced about Bradford, Swindon, MK Dons, Rotherham, Walsall or Crawley getting a big points total, Coventry will probably be around their as well. It's possible that lot will be very congested and 70ish points may squeak 6th spot. But that would mean us winning a lot of games. More than half of em at least. Can't see that happening.

Being realistic, it will be a struggle just to stay up. None of the 3 teams below us are certs to go down, it's not going to be easy for anybody in the bottom half to escape the drop. There's not one team who you can write off and say they won't get any points. Bristol City were 3rd or 4th favs for the title. Notts County will probably pick up when they inevitably sack their manager. Tranmere have recently won away at Bradford and drew at Rotherham. It wouldn't be a surprise if all the current bottom 4 stay up. Could be like the championship last season when Peterborough went down but were a few points off mid-table.

I would have said yes this morning then we hired Clough ........................................... not a chance now.

The most obvious one that springs to mind is Crystal Palace under Iain Dowie. He came in just before Christmas to my memory and they were in the Championship relegation zone. Won the playoffs.
Didn't Bournemouth do similar last season?

Bit of an anomaly that one. The Championship was extremely congested that year. We were third at Christmas and ended up finishing 8th.

Palace were 19th when Dowie took over but they had a not too shabby 28 points and were only 10 points off the play offs and 18 points off 1st.

We're already 13 points off the play offs and 23 points off 1st.

Plus they had Andrew Johnson who bagged 27 league goals. We've currently got Taylor, Collins and Maguire all on 2 and are the third lowest scorers in the football league.

I'd love it to happen but it just ain't gonna.

I don't think it will either and said as much on the previous page. I just don't think it's impossible. Top two start losing a few (realistic possibility) and the likes of us and Bristol City start winning and this division becomes congested as well.

Of course it's unlikely but not out of reach.

Having slept on this, why ever not? We're 13 points off the play-offs. That's no big deal - just see how Coventry swept away their 10 point deduction. Anything approaching decent form up to Christmas could see this eroded to 10, 8 points and then there's half a season to play.

I will bare my arse on the town hall steps if None League Nigel takes us to the play-off's.

Alco, I've definitely bookmarked this page! ;)

Why do we all get on the bandwagon of calling the pigs deluded and then make delusional comments about getting in the play offs? Mid table would be an achievement and 4th bottom is realistic. We haven't turned into a poor team overnight it's been coming since last Xmas. This is why managers only last 5 minutes at the lane, unrealistic expectations from 75% of fans. Before I get accused of pessimism I'd term it realism.

Its very much a mathematical possibility

99 points available

a play off place has often been achieved with 75 , even 72 points so having 9 we could squeak in the play off with another 66 points out of those 99 available , or exactly 2 points per game which , was our average collection before Weir came , so yes it is possible, without it being ridiculously hard to achieve

I agree, it;'s not impossible, but Kendall had tons of moey and was able to effectively buy an entire new team. If memory serves, our regulat team at the end of the season was

Kelly

Short
Ablett
Vonk
Nilsen

Hutchison
Patterson
Cowans
Whitehouse

Walker
Taylor

All but Kelly, Nilsen and Whitehouse had been brought in by Kendall. The new guy this time won't be able to do anything like this.

  1. Perhaps Clough will be more focussed for more of the working day than was Kendall. Though, why Mr K may have dropped the ball early escapes me.
