Do you think we can still make the play-offs?

I know i am being a tad optimistic but i reckon with the right manager and a few additions to the squad(and a few leaving),we could still possibly make the play-offs.
We are 13 points from 6th place at present and there are 33 games still to play and 99 points.
We have got a point at Peterborough who are 2nd in the league and we should not fear anyone in this division really, and we could quite easily go on a long winning run and fly up the table, and the top 6 will all probably have bad runs at some point in the season.
The next 5 games are all winnable,Crewe(H),Shrewsbury(A),Gillingham(H),Bristol City(A) and Walsall(H).
Does anyone share my optimism?

In a way yes i do, but i think these 5 games will prove if we are good enough the next 5 teams are very poor and aren't on the best of runs especially Crewe at the weekend. If we can go the next 5 unbeaten with a minimum of 3 wins i actually think we have a chance. It will also be interesting to see what happens if we do go the next 5 unbeaten against that shite when we then go to Orient.

I just love your optimism! Ive been a Blades supporter too many years to believe we will finish anywhere but 5th from bottom!

It's a nice thought and still very possible, butt we'd depend on going on a something like a 5 game winning streak to even restore some parity with the current 3-6th place teams. Possible, but not easy. A win on Saturday would be a good start.

Around 74 if probably the minimum number of points needed for a play off place. that means we would need 65 points from 33 games - i.e. just about an average of 2 points a game, which is automatic promotion form.

I'm afraid I can't see it. Given the royal fuck up made by Weir, I have written off this season. I will be happy if by March we are out of any serious relegation trouble and can then start preparing for a proper promotion push next season.

The correct blades reply is probably this 'yes we will and then get to the final and completely mess up', its the blades way. Ever the optimist me.

No. We are way too far behind and the squad is nowhere near good enough to gain an average of two points a game from here on in, although the last few days is a good start.

I see this season now as preparation for next season. First, get away from the relegation places so that is no longer an issue. I think we can all agree that the squad is capable of that at the very least. Then, it is a case of building the squad and momentum for a big push next season.

There will be shit teams coming up from L2 and shit teams coming down from the Championship. Hopefully, two of the teams coming down will not just be shit, but wankers to boot. Teams such as Orient have shown that you don't have to be outstanding to thrive in this division, but be organised and have developed a good understanding in the squad of team roles.

It's possible and I've seen sides achieve it from worse positions than we're currently in. They would really have to go some though.....as Darren said above we need a 2 points per game average and you would have to think even if things improved dramatically we will have a brief stutter again at some point.

I would like to think we can but it's a big ask.

Yes. Although it will be tough. We have 10 games until the new year, we would need to win 7 of those to have any realistic chance imo. Of those 10 games only 3 are against opposition who are currently in the top half of the league. So I see no reason why come January the 1st we are sitting on 30 points. Anything short of this though and i think it would leave us too much to do.

Definiately - if you win 3 games on the bounce in this division you are right back in the mix. Doncaster won the league and lost 12 games last season

In 1995, we were next to bottom when Bassett went, with 18 points from 21 games (it's OK Daz, I looked it up, I'm not going into competition). We ended up 9th with 62 points, 7 points off the play-offs. We took 44 points from 25 games, at an average of 1.76 per game. Only two defeats, but 11 draws. If Kendall had taken over a few games earlier, we could have made 6th place. I agree it's unlikely, but it's not impossible.

Interestingly, Millwall were in 6th place after 18 games and contrived to get relegated that season, with 52 points.

I agree, it;'s not impossible, but Kendall had tons of moey and was able to effectively buy an entire new team. If memory serves, our regulat team at the end of the season was

Kelly

Short
Ablett
Vonk
Nilsen

Hutchison
Patterson
Cowans
Whitehouse

Walker
Taylor

All but Kelly, Nilsen and Whitehouse had been brought in by Kendall. The new guy this time won't be able to do anything like this.

This is like listening to P & G when the pigs have lost 6 on the bounce, win one and they are going to storm the league! Let's be a bit realistic until we know how the players perform under the new manager.

If it means going on a decent running, getting to the play-offs for another disaster then yes, of course we can.

Trouble is, we're about to employ Weir 2 judging by Derby fans comments so who knows.

No chance would snap your hands off for a guarantee of 5th bottom. We have done loads better since Morgan came in but 4 points from from 9 is still not play off form.

I will bare my arse on the town hall steps if None League Nigel takes us to the play-off's.

Remind me of this at the end of the season Pinchy.

It's possible, but I doubt it. They'd need to go on a pretty impressive winning streak to touch the top 6. Mid table is where we will be.

It's still possible for us to win the title, let alone automatic promotion, or a play-off place, and with the squad that we have it should be within EASY reach, however my expectations for this season have gone from EXPECTING us winning the title to HOPING for us to avoid relegation!

I do hope I will!

I must say, though, I dislike intensely the use of silly nicknames for our management and players.
