the only options are go along with modern football or watch non league

I wouldn't cancel it in protest - it wouldn't matter a jot to them.

Disagree entirely with both these sentiments.

When did we all become so apathetic as a nation that we believe things simply cannot be changed? That we have to like it or lump it and there's fuck all we can do about it?

One person cancelling Sky isn't going to do owt, I agree. But a shitload of people cancelling and making a lot of noise about it will rattle cages. If a properly organised, countrywide campaign really got going it'd cost them money and shovel a tonne of bad publicity down their throats. We're not the only ones sick of Sky and their dictatorship of football fixtures, it just needs someone with the time, knowledge and passion to get something proper going.

It'll take a certain special somebody to carry that torch, though. People have jobs and mortgages and families to take care of first.

I don't pay for any Sky services, used to, but cancelled them some time ago.

I haven't ever had Sky, however I signed up yesterday for the full package, films, sports, F1, internet, phone, the lot!

Just cancelled this morning! That'll show the f**kers! o_O

But a shit load of people are never going to cancel Sky for this reason.

The service it offers are too valuable to modern lifestyles. Alternatives aren't up to the standard of Sky, even if available in your region.

A mass cancellation of Sky isn't a viable option, nor is it the best one.

Surely approaching FA recognised fans groups/forums, clubs directly, etc etc for assistance in at least initiating some sort of dialogue with Sky on the issues would be a more effective way of doing things?

But then sat bored on a Sunday, watching re runs of Columbo while Man City & Liverpool are serving up a thriller.

Are you aware of a mythical, ancient device called a 'radio'?

Where a TV emits both sound and images, a radio only emits sound, thus freeing your eyes and hands to commit to other tasks.

You can wash the pots whilst absorbing the Liverpool v Man City game. Or rub one out when 'The Archers' is on.

I have it so...

I have an annual battle with them when they increase the price without telling me

Can't remember the figure, but I think it's the same as three years ago.

What pisses me off (apart from the price) is twenty minutes of every hour of shit adverts - you can only stand so many Go Compare ads

I have Amazon Prime, and netflix. Between that and Pornhub, I'm pretty much set.

These boxes are not illegal, unless your streaming something you would normally have to subscribe to.

Correct mate they are not illegal and I obviously don't stream anything illegal - only what is covered by my TV Licence :)

Any fan who's ever been messed around by Sky's rearrangement of fixtures already has at least one reason to cancel.

In terms of providing TV channels/entertainment, I've lived with Freeview and I've currently got the basic package of Virgin Media and Netflix. There are so, so many more options than the ridiculous amounts that Sky charge for their bigger packages. Some are spending over £1000 a year for a bit of fucking telly! Is that what 'modern lifestyles' amount to these days?

Ways to consume telly are changing. People are steadily growing tired of paying for a load of shite they never watch when services like Netflix are cheaper and more choice-friendly.

I really cannot see why a mass cancellation of Sky isn't a decent option. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Opening a dialogue with them is a good idea. Whether they'll listen to people asking them nicely to stop messing with our sport for their financial gain is a different matter.

It's pointless cancelling if even if we all did, Sky make more money from abroad than they do from the football league. I have never had it and never will as I detest Murdock and his sycophant"editors" for all his media outlets.

Personally I think that's nuts, but then people would say me spending over a grand a year on computers is a bit nuts too.

Me for one :-)

I probably spend around £1500-£2000 a year on books. I think most people would consider that to be crazy.

Do you read them all? And I'm assuming some of these are expensive legal manuals?

Sky has 12 million subscribers in the UK (or they did in July last year) - How many do you reckon would have to cancel, at the same time due to fixture movement before sky give a shiny shit? Bear in mind, they would all have to be outside their contract period so they could cancel without penalty

I commend you, sir. I don't read anywhere near as much as I should do.

I agree that things are changing in the way people access movies, tv programmes etc etc, Unfortunately there is only Sky that I can access Sports through, and because I pay for that, its too convenient and cost beneficial for me to get the other stuff as well (ie internet, multiroom).

I don't think there is anyway a campaign could the get the required number of cancellations to make Sky take note. Too many variables as explained in my opinion.

We might have to disagree on the aforementioned, but what we can all agree is that something needs to happen.

Ive not looked - but is there actually a fans group that represents the 72 football league clubs and has links with the FA?

Most basic package including SkySports: £45.50 a month/£546 a year (clearly not many people only have the basic package, so this is a minimum total)

100 fans from each of the 92 league clubs cancelling: 100x546 = £54,600
54,600x92 = £5,023,200

So if a mere 100 current subscribers from every league club got on board and cancelled, that's over £5million lost in a year. That might seem like a drop in the ocean when Sky's overall wealth is considered, but massive companies like this get to where they are by squeezing every single penny out of their customers. If you think a £5million drop in their turnover won't go unnoticed, you're wrong.

And if a media campaign were to coincide with co-ordinated cancellations, I think the impact of having everyone calling them scumbags would be worse for them than any financial losses suffered.

That would represent 0.04% of Sky's revenue, or in other words a rounding error.

The main problem is though, becasue of the way Sky signs you up, I doubt there are 9200 (which is a massive number to achivee) customers who would be able to cancel Sky on the spot, never mind simultaneously.

The sad thing is, you probably need a nutter of a chairman like the one up the M1 to make any initial ripples in this area.

New tactic, then. We need to get 92 nutters into chairman positions!

Wonder how many voters don't have Sky but subscribe to Sky sports via another provider like Virgin?

I have Virgin but no sports or movies except those that come with the regular package (BT, Sports news etc.)

How many of Sky's subscribers actually have a season ticket or attend live matches regularly?

The point I'm making is that the majority of Sky's football "fans", will think great they are showing Man U vs Liverpool live and not give a shit about how it is done and who is being inconvenienced as a result. So from Sky's point of view, who do you keep happy? A few thousand who will moan that a match has been moved or the millions of Sky viewer who will watch the match live on TV?
