Good afternoon all,

I'm about to get stuck into writing my dissertation for my BA Media at Hallam, and I need your help!

My area of research is about how globalisation and the media (namely TV rights deals) have contributed towards the enormous sums of money injected into the game since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, and whether it has resulted in a bad deal for fans of the game in the modern day.

I don't wish to say too much about how I'm breaking down each chapter and what I'm expecting/hoping to find as I don't want to lead respondents in any way. Should the responses go the way I don't expect them to, I'll follow the data.

If you could spare five minutes of your time to complete my survey, it would be hugely appreciated. Please click the link here >>> https://form.jotform.com/210833935744056

I'm hoping for about 100 responses, more if possible. With some of the questions centred around opinions of the Premier League, I thought I'd better broaden my net a bit to avoid any potential anti-PL bias stemming from an awful Sheffield United season 😁 I'm about to post the same survey on RedCafe (Man U) which appears to be well-used, but does anyone know of any other Premier League fan forums which are known to have a fair bit of traffic?

Thanks in advance for your help, and as ever, UTB.

Tom

Completed it for you Tom. Best of luck with it and I look forward to the results!

Roygbiv is probably your man to guide you to which forums have the most traffic.

Done, I feel that you'd have got a more positive response towards the PL from this fanbase this time last year than now though!

Oh, you'll probably get some really balanced views from Vital Blades, they seem a nice bunch. Herbert on Blades Mad would probably respond 100 times on his own as well in a conversational style.

Done.

Based on your line of questions, i'd recommend the BT Sport documentary "Ours" if you haven't already. Very relevant to your study and very well put together in terms of football globalisation, return to fan ownership/involvement and the real life cases that currently exist e.g. Wimbledon, Rushden & Diamonds, Portsmouth, Boreham, Ebbsfleet etc.

Cheers fella. Never written anything this large before (although at 6,000 words, it's shitloads smaller than what students of yesteryear were asked to write...make of that what you will!)

Well good luck to you but i hope you have a back up plan. For example a masters post grad degree in a subject where you will be actually able to land a job and earn some money. I speak as father to a son graduating in Computer Science last June who has struggled to find any sort of job associated in an industry which was in demand pre covid. So media studies i dont think is going to open too many doors in the job market for graduates at this point in time.

I would also recommend doing a study of how not to run a football club outside of Premier league by researching all recent history of Sheffield Wednesday and their accounts since 2012 . Blackjack may have rendered better results and this is a story of a massive club witha massive fan base, much more massive than their city neighbours and who are about to transend into another period of massive rebuilding from the 3rd tier. Truly remarkable story and much more interesting than studying the premier league riches.

I completed two years of a filmmaking course at Man Met in the early 2010's but didn't graduate. Used those credits to hop onto the final year of BA Media at Hallam as it was the most doable relevant subject to my prior studies (and Covid gave me an enforced career break). Once graduated it's straight onto a PGCE to qualify as a primary school teacher. There's a plan!

And finally as a graduate myself and father to two sons graduating in recent three years, really you have left starting your dissertation a bit late, you should have finished by easter and just be making the final edits by now.

Done, this is when you reveal that you’re actually an undercover police officer and you’re going to arrest us all for watching illegal streams.

That sounds a bit like a waste of a year or two of your life and you are now qualified to teach my projected grandchildren (havent got any yet) what exactly ?. Do you have any skills or knowledge fountains which may actually give my projected grandchildren any perceivable life skills to learn and face lifes obstacles or educate them in useful subjects apart from how to spend time in the uni bars.

I think mine was 15k, but it was 25 years ago, so can't say for sure..? It was too bloody long in any case.

And with such an arresting subject matter..."The impact of Circadian Rhythms on Visual Learning and Memory".....it's not hard to see why I was such a big hit with the ladies. :(
