Must be the best season ever for half the posters on this forum.....

Our best ever 2nd tier season in points tally is the 1952/53 season, we won 25, drew 10 and lost 7. 60 points in total but if it was 3 points for a win then it would have been 85 points so 85 points divided by 42 times 46 is 93.0952380952. We need a win on Saturday to beat that if you dont include the 2 points deduction.

I'm talking about the people who don't want Premier League football, and think the Championship is the best place to be.
We've earned at least 91 points (2 more than promotion in 2019, and the same as promotion in 2023). With the potential to get 94.
Done the double over Wednesday without conceding a goal.
Had the best possible placing without going up automatically - 3rd.
And at least another 2, possibly 3 Championship games to go to!
Question for these people - would you rather we failed in the semis, or took it all the way to the final before failing, thereby ensuring another season in the Championship?
We only have potential to achieve 92 points.

Got to have a go at going up that’s what it’s all about in it

I don’t want us to not go up, I just fear what’s going to happen when we get there.

The people who don't want us to go up must look at Stoke, Cardiff, Middleborough, west Brom, Norwich and QPR as living their dream.

In other words they are absolutely moronic.

So why have none of those teams gone up ?

Wilder out..

Precisely it's a sports game and only one team can win.

Get behind the 'team' that includes everyone, and help make it happen rather than looking for who we can use as a scapegoat.

Are we really getting as entitled in our thinking as our noisy neighbours........

Premiership for me, what's the point of staying in the Championship without trying to improve, nobody of any talent would want to come here and we'd be down to 22k gates in no time and anyone with any sense would stop going
Anybody with any sense wouldn't give a shit about football.

Well, we need the money..

Regardless of new owners etc and new cash, we need to sustain what we have now, and that is some great players on the pitch..

Who will leave if we fail isn't the issue, it's how do we replace them without the fabled parachute money?

I hate that league, but dipping in and out is necessary for the clubs future..

All the hammerings though don't dare thinking about

I’d love it if went up. It’s all about playing the best teams. The Prem is tough as anything but magic can happen. Look at Wilders first season in the Prem.

I agree with all the above,

I'm totally not bothered how this works out now,

I do want to get to the final
If we lose on penalties I will be looking forward to going again in the Championship with the opportunity for the new board to fund a better rebuild than last time, but as a Yorkshireman I dont want us to spend stupid money on Prima Donna's who only want the money and have no investment in the club

If we do go up I'll be happy in a way, at having another bash at the impossible dream on a shoestring, but not the (almost inevitable) loss after loss after loss.

So I'll be watching all the games, with a win / win mindset, and just enjoying the ride

Spot on ! Most fans want success to be happy to fail ! Just doesn't wash. We have a record of the nearly club and I can't understand any fan being happy to fail .It's great to win matches on a regular basis which we do in the championship! But! Promotion has to be our goal.
To prosper we have to have premiership football or we will fall back into the struggle to maintain championship football as we have found previously.Stand still and go backwoods always happens to clubs of our size. The Americans know this ! No such thing as relegation in American sport .
The new owners want promotion or it will cost them money to maintain a strong championship club.
£100+ million to buy plus whatever the costs are to run a strong club, parachute money Helps next season ! After that ?.

Given that I've seen us lose in pretty much every conceivable way in play offs so feel I have nothing more to achieve in that respect, I think I'd rather like to see us win this time.

It’s like losing your virginity, but to Daniella Westbrook

I mean a shags a shag, but fuckin awful watch

Go up, and hope law of averages says after 2 seasons of promoted teams straight back down we manage to pull it off, which looping back to my opening line would be preferable

Someone my dad would call a double bagger. You need a bag for her head and one for yours in case hers falls off.

I’d rather we improved our style of football.
This is a time to support our team. If you're going to complain about the style of play then wait till the end of the season after we know what's happened, for now get behind them, we need to be united. Making radical changes now is unlikely and unlikely to work.

I don’t want to go up said so right from the start after last season.

What’s the point? Who wants another season like last? Because that’s 100% what will happen.

All those that want to go up, will you be walking out when we’re 5 down to Arsenal and the like at half time like last season?

The Premier league is a horrible corrupt league it’s all set up for the big six.

Why go up for the sole aim to finish fourth bottom every season?

We can’t compete with the wages in the prem very average players are on excess of 100k a week we just can’t match it,

Whilst I dread going up as there is a risk of getting zero points in the Premier League, if we don’t go up this season there will be no chance next season. The relegated clubs will be strong and Birmingham City and Wrexham may well have money behind them.
Might as well prolong the parachute payments even if the results will be dire

It’s called Learned Helplessness syndrome

Journey is always better than the destination, just as the idea of winning the playoffs can sometimes outweigh the difficulty of actually winning them.

To finish 3rd having won 91 total points so far this season is baffling, 9 times out of 10 you'd have automatic promotion with that points tally, you might even win the league one year with a points total like that.

The reality is that most of us would love us to get promoted, but just don’t want another season like last season, without even a glimmer of hope of staying up.

That 18/19 promotion was fantastic, and then it was topped by a brilliant season until Covid derailed the world. To be fair we had 4 superb seasons on the trot when CW took over, every match day was full of hope, and we were competing in every game irrespective of opponent (can only think of Liverpool away in front of crowds where we didn’t get a touch).

Two dreadful campaigns have psychologically damaged many of us!

I look at it with mixed feelings.
I want us to win every game we play. So obviously want us to get to Wembley in the final. And then win that when we get there. But just like so many here I've seen us fail so many times. And losing at Wembley is gut wrenching, heart breaking and soul destroying in equal measure s. So to actually see us win there is something I'd love to see.
But then for me it's a case of be careful what you wish for. Getting there will be carnage. Our last visit was horrible to watch. And you know it will be the same again.
Ok we've got backers with money now. Allegedly.
Ipswich spent £170 million and have come straight back down. Does anyone here think we will spend anything like that amount? Id be surprised if we do.
With VAR. Bias against us and for the top six. It's not going to be fun.

That’s the thing for me. The teams who went up have spent, yet they are where they are.

Purely based on what I’ve seen on MOTD, Ipswich have played some good football with a progressive manager, yet they are where they are.

I've never understood the mentality of not wanting promotion tbh. Yeah it might suck arse for a year, but it brings in the funds needed. Additionally, we've no idea what the plans are for these new guys in charge.
It's the hope that'll get ya. I hope we get to Wembly, I hope we break our duck on playoff finals, I hope we get the right players to keep us up, I hope our stay in the Prem is long , I hope, I hope, I fkin hope. I guess I'm like every fan on the planet...I hope!!!!
