I never quite understood the angst that DDG always seemed to receive. If overconfidence was one of reasons he didn't quite make it, he won't be first nor the last footballer to suffer from it.
If he's doing well at Buxton and enjoying playing, as well as running his own business, then good luck to him.
It's embarrassing and boring, but a large section can't help but have a dig at every opportunity. Diego didn't link himself with Juve/Arsenal etc, there was genuine interest from top clubs. Diego didn't call Arrigo Sacchi begging to play for Italy, Arrigo Sacchi called him to switch allegiances.

Ask anyone that watched him in our youth team from 8 years old and they'll tell you he was the most talented player we've ever produced. His downfall wasn't arrogance it was a nasty ACL injury which happened as a teenager trying to break in to our first team. Unfortunately he never fully recovered. No need for anyone to take the piss out of him for that.

Be nice to get Buxton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup if they manage to pull of an upset against Morcambe, sure DDG would get a warm reception at the lane.

His family are bellends to be honest. They think they own Chesterfield and are god’s gift to the world. Diego’s big brother is potentially the biggest helmet I’ve ever met. In that respect at least, I’m glad Diego never made it because the family would have become even more unbearable.

Taking personal views away from it, I think it’s a shame he didn’t make it but I’d have rather Terry Kennedy made it, a lad that gave it all and didn’t make it through no fault of his own rather than laziness.

The bizarre and sad truth of it is, if Diego’s name was John Smith he wouldn’t have even had a thread on here.

My old man played against his uncle a lot in the Chesterfield Sunday League and says much the same.

I hope they get through today and that we then draw them.

Then we can finally smash that jumped up little overhyped gobshite into oblivion, and let that be the end of it.

Jokes, obvs.

Have a like for a classic use of the word Helmet.

He is still young and was coming good under Hecky but got injured?!

I don't really think 'youth player comes through the ranks but ends up non-league' really counts as a flop, let alone the biggest flop ever.

If we had paid 20 million for him you might have a case, but I half expect Brewster to end up at Buxton myself.

Signing a 1 year deal a couple of days ago at Buxton. Is he the biggest flop in the history of the club?

Probably not. I'm not trying to doubt he had any talent but maybe he was just really over hyped? Even if he never got that injury on international duty who is to say he would've then broken into our first team and subsequently tear L1 a new one?

There are no guarantees in football.

Lads has found a way to enjoy the game and live his life. It could’ve turned out differently but didn’t we’ve moved on as a club he’s moved on as a person that’s the long and the short of it

I see the 'D13GO X' numberplate a lot at his brothers house as I think they both work as gas fitters,.

Downgraded the RRS to a white C43 AMG convertible now though 😂

Still wears his cap and earrings

Good owd DDG, of the players dads-who-used-to-mouth-off-about-the-club-like-bellends era (see also the McCuntly clan).

Went to see York City once, he played, nobody noticed.
