What terrible timing this is before one of the biggest games for ages , i am well fucked off , some of the players must be , it totally baffle's me this decision and the timing .

It will have been known for a few weeks I guess. Also, there is such a thing as courtesy to the player, he needs time to negotiate whatever he is going to do next and simple employment law and giving due notice.

On the positive side, if they need any further motivation, do it for Didzy!

Bert always enjoyed watching him play and he wishes him the best of luck.... but as it stands he's a 34 year old injured bit part player and that's why he's not been offered a new contract.

To quote the man himself, all good things come to an end.

I’m sure he’s known for a while. Age has caught up with him and he’s not the player he was. I’d have been very surprised if he’d been offered a new deal. He’ll probably get an offer at L1 level.

Great footballer and servant to us, wish him all the best and will get a great reception. But ultimately the right decision, out with the old, in with the new and younger generation. Can’t stand still.

I don't want to be that guy that bashes the club for everything they do, but I don't think McGoldrick being released should have been bundled into a statement with Mousset & Freeman... the man has been a legend of this club.

I hope he gets some sort of send off tomorrow and that we allow him to stick around for rehabilitation and preseason training so that he's ready for his next move.

They followed it up with tributes to him and a video.

It wasn't.

Genuine legend, one of the best players we had in my 43 years, watching the Blades. Showed he was a truly Premiership player over two seasons. For all his skill, he was also a warrior, he stepped up and dragged us to the premier league in the final stretch of the promotion season when Billy was injured and was head and shoulders above anyone else in our last season in the Prem, when the whole team seemed to collapse around him.

Eh? The club has put individual tributes to him on all the main social media channels.

Absolutely the right decision. Didzy has been good for us but age has caught up with him. I’m sure he’s known this was going to happen for a while.
Good 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 I would say fucking excellent , age has caught up with him , he runs around more than the teenager's on the pitch , were talking about McGoldrick not McBurine ?

Wasn’t a thread when I started typing mine out so I’ll just copy and paste what I said onto this one.

Really sad to see him go as it’s been a real pleasure to watch him, such an intelligent footballer. Yes his finishing has let him down but if he could finish he wouldn’t have been playing for us.

Absolutely love the man, one of my favourite blades in a couple of decades.
Really fucking annoys me the talk about he wouldn't be playing for us if he could score goals.
Aren’t you forgetting someone?

Is he driving a white van?

Great skill and contribution to the team but abysmal finishing - so good overall. But he hasn’t been the same player this season. Injury prone and lost that spark. Let’s see if a top end Championship team pick him up.

Lost that spark 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 are you a comedian , your making me laugh !

Injury prone ffs so's half the fucking team 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

I said when he got injured, that was the last we would see of Didzy.
Not being funny, but for a 35yr old to come back from a torn thigh muscle, it's a lot to ask, he would need a good while to get fit again, and age and time, unfortunately, arent on his side.
Been great for the club, as the club has been great for him, and I'd like to wish him all the best for the future!! UTB!

I would have been happy to see him given another year and for him to share a role with N'Diaye for a further season.

But as has been said, he'll be 35 before Christmas, he's just had a bad season ending injury and the team have learned to live without him.

At the same time, any minutes you give to a 35 year old potentially takes development out of N'Diaye, Brewster, Jebbison, Osula. We already have Sharp as an elder statesman. Not sure having two players so late in their careers with the inevitable increase in injury absences is the right thing to do, especially when they would have been on a good contract.

Sort of opportunist signing Luton might make if they don't go up, given the success of Jerome and given their budget if they could stretch it that far.

Player I've genuinely loved. Loved his skills. Loved the fact through all his difficulties in front of goal the first Prem season he got nothing but love and support from the fans. Showed both him and us in a great light. His appreciation and our class as fans.

Oh David McGoldrick. Goodbye sweet Prince. You'll be looked on with fondness in what has been a fairytale. You've been one of the best.
