How about 15th Feb 1969. No game between 1st Feb and 1st March?

Correct. I presume matches were postponed due to the weather? My Mum always told me the midwife nearly didn't make it in time bcause of the snow.

I assume so. I was only 2 at the time, so can't recall :-)

The matches were scheduled for Saturday, 8 February 1969. However, for the first time in history, the entire fifth round draw for the FA Cup was unable to be played due to heavy snowfall across England, The replays took upto 1st of March. and we lost in the 3rd round 2 - 1 to MANSFIELD a fantastic game.

2 days after I was born we played QPR at home in the first game of the 1974-75 season. Before I'd said my first words United completed their best season in my lifetime!

Interesting to look at the results from that season - the difference between 2 and 3 points for a win provides a completely different outlook. 2 draws and a defeat in the first 3 games nowadays would have everyone wondering if that Furphy bloke could hack it and prospects of a relegation battle. In '74 that saw us comfortably mid table. A month later after 4 consecutive wins and we're up to fifth!

The midweek home game against Derby in October 1974 was a very entertaining end to end stuff that either side could have won but we lost 2-1. had the scores been reversed and that our results stayed the same after that apart from the last game at Birmingham then we would have needed a win at Birmingham to become league champions. That is how close it was!

The day i was born, 12-3-1974 we lost 3-0 to Ipswich Town! Hrumphh!

We needed a win at Birmingham to qualify for the EUFA cup not win the leauge we drew 0 - 0 and hence did not make it goal difference.

We thought so at the time, but during the summer UEFA changed the rules and we would not have qualified even had we won at Birmingham.

could have sworn it was 1-1 currie scored? i could be wrong though i was only 9 at the time :d

That is indeed correct, but what Silent was saying was that had we beaten Derby rather than losing (which could've easily happened) then that last game at Birmingham could have been us playing for win to be league champions. Derby ended with 53 points, had they lost to us that would make them 51 points. We finished on 49 points, had we beat them that would be 51 points as well. Had we beat Birmingham then that becomes 52 points and league winners. A few 'what if' situations, but Silent is right on how close we were that season.

was the best season ever , my abiding memory was the comeback win at Goodison , from 2-0 down to win 3-2 ,they scored from a Badger free kick that hit the bar so hard it gave them a fast break away goal .
Keith Eddy was magnificent that day , and it blew Evertons chance of the title, Currie was at his mercurial best and finished off a wonderful team goal , keys and gray would have had orgasms over.
Heady days, in a galaxy far far away
