Did they even use the usual offside angles? The camera angles I saw them looking at were so bad I think it was impossible to say 100% either way, so then you can't change the card.

I’m fairly comfortable with VAR for objective decisions such as offsides, ball out of play etc.

For subjective stuff like dangerous play, goal scoring opportunities and even some handballs, the slow motion / stills are utterly misleading and lead to worse mistakes than the refs make. Surely, for this stuff, it should go back to the ‘clear and obvious’ rule of thumb. You could see today that the ref was just looking at the monitor, bewildered, and just plumped for a guess.

It's nonsensical mate. But I "think" the reason for the difference is because of the double jeopardy rule. We got a penalty so the odds were stacked in our favour.

As I said on another thread. That corrupt twat Scott has now fuc#ed us over home and away against Villa. The fact that the corrupt premier league allowed the twat to be on VAR after what he did at Villa park is beyond a joke. Not forgetting the fact that 2 weeks after sending off Egan, who was out on the right wing touch line, he then allowed someone to stay on for pulling back a shirt on the edge of the area! The outcry that would have happened had he rocked up to old Trafford, the Etihad, anfield etc would have been cataclysmic.

And whenever they are asked to go to the screen you know it's because they have basically been told they got it wrong so you know a turnover is coming. The screen should be only if the ref thinks it will help them, before they make a tough decision in my opinion. Plus today it wasn't even a proper playback but a still. No indication of the movement of the players or where the ball was heading.

Why these twats in the middle don't have the balls to stick by their original decisions is a mystery. Says plenty about them as personalities.

This angle from the highlights makes the decision look even worse. So why the still shown to the ref from behind play instead of across as in offside with the lines. Bryan is clearly the last man too.

They make it up as they go along. There'll always be some throw away line of interpretation that fits whatever decision has been made at the time. Sod consistency, sod anyone from fan to player to manager understanding the laws of the game and how they're applied. if we're lucky we'll hear some pathetic excuse like the Bogle incident of "some degree of contact is expected", a term which I didn't need to search for to know doesn't appear anywhere in the rules.

All VAR has achieved so far is adding an even more convoluted path for refs to abrogate any responsibility for their decision. The finest example ever seen was last year's away game at Villa with the goal there. It's not the ref's fault, the goal-line tech didn't go off. It's not the tech's fault, the linesman should've picked it up. It's not the linesman's fault, VAR should've looked at it. And it's not VAR's fault because the ref didn't pick it up. Round and round in circles we go and all we've achieved is making the game worse to watch.
