Well, Hill probably wants to defend his mate so he's not a reliable source either but I did wonder how Nigel felt about such stories being told, true or not. I wouldn't like people going on the radio taking the piss of my dad like that.

It also portrays Brian as hugely unprofessional. Quite a few people have said 'what a great character' but if that story had been about how Robson had missed out on signing a top player because he'd turned up pissed and crawled around the carpet he would have been vilified, not praised.

I thought the same to be honest. Its a funny story (if you didn't know the circumstances) but then considering his alcohol problems and how he deteriorated, its quite sad really unless he was a total eccentric all his life and the actions were normal for Cloughy.

After listening to this and reading the article in the Guardian, I think Saunders has used a bit of poetic licence with this. I know Cloughie was an eccentric but if you listen to the interview, you can hear the awkward short silence when Saunders is adding to the story. Can't see this being true if I'm honest, no doubt the meeting took place but not as its being portrayed.

Clough was a eccentric but also had a illness . Saunders making hay whilst the sun shines . Saunders wouldn't even be on the tv or wireless if not for the success of Wales . He was the forgotten man in football , Wales doing well , cor blimey bring another ex international out as a expert commentator , and let's forget they were shite when he actually played for them.

Clough family should sue the fucker . Come back Ron Atkinson.

Unlike Saunders' story, which was mildly amusing, that actually made me laugh out loud.

He won't be seen in a good light that's for sure and even if it was all true, I still think out of respect to Cloughie and his family and people suffering from the awful illness that is alcoholism, he should have kept this story to himself. At the end of the day though, he's now the one who it reflects badly on not Cloughie.
