Can anyone remember any instances where a new manager brought in a player to captain the club and galvanise the team, a player who has followed the manager from club to club and has been the backbone of a successful team.

I remember Brian Clough bringing in Dave Mackay from Spurs to be the hard midfield general. He was knocking on a bit, but it was a good decision at the time.

I’m sure AI wouldn’t have highlighted the likes of Dave Mackay, or would it?

There was no AI during Brian Cloughs time.

If Ben Mee goes straight into the first eleven, then why not give him the captaincy.

Loads of experience at a decent level.
