Dean Hammond, club captain next season?

I hope McCeveley gets a year. One of the few players th gone out of this season with any credit - it was his worst game in a while today.

Hammond was decent today, but fingers crossed he won't be back next year, and if he is, on enormously reduced terms

First half, ball in the air, ten yards of space around him, he handles it and gives a dangerous free kick away.

But I'm sure, as always, the things I didn't see him do were sublime.
 
kinell, been saying it till I'm blue in the mouth.....if Adkins is here next season, Hammond is nailed on for a 2 year deal and he will be captain. It's been a done deal since january

Then why not just sign him on permanent deal in January?
 
Please no, Hammond would be as lousy a captain as he is a player. Hope we don't even keep him, Adkins or no.

Yes but as has been examined throughly on the other thread (for some inexplicable reason) there were really 30,000 on the Kop today so it probably didn't make it to you.

I watched Hammond closely today as I've not been for a few games, his lack of pace gets him into all sorts of trouble and he gives way so many free kicks as a result. His legs have gone and this won't improve next season. I'm still in the Adkins stay camp but if he wants to give Hammond a deal I would support McCabe in changing the manger as he's either doing an old mate a favour or cannot judge what is required in this team.
 
Hammond was abismal today. When he had to change his shirt to a blank one some guy caused laughter when he shouted "get used to it its your number next season."

We haven't got a captain in this squad (Billy acts like one but he can't be expected to do everything).
 
In am going to stick my head above the parapet here, Hammond is a lot better player then people a giving him credit for. He does cover a lot of ground, he does cover situations, yes he has lost his speed,but his positioning is tremendous. Yes he makes mistakes but so does every player. I thought Che Adams today was abmsyal, but that is an opinion. Hammond is the boo boy and his mistakes are magnified. If the price is right and his wages are in line with everyone else then to me not a problem signing him. People are looking for his mistakes but never look at his contribution
 
I want to like him KC but recently there's been vast holes in CMF where he should be and he just isn't. He's lost his pace, and when he gets the ball his distribution is woeful. he has everything on paper, but on grass............

I looked at his contribution, against Southend, when he squared the ball for the fella to score the second goal , for them , he may have scored the equaliser, but did fuckall else .
I never boo any player that pulls on the red and white , the cunt curran being the only exception, ohh and don givens .
 
Decent player, great bloke, I'm sure....but his leg's have gone, it's plain to see..get him in as player/coach or summat if Adkins wants him around but that position needs young, fast, hard legs to kick on and stamp out the oppo...

Hammond's legs have gone? Well he still gets around the pitch as well as Coutts. Has Coutts ever had "legs"?

Hammond gives away fouls and gets booked? Well that's cause he's the defensive midfielder. Has Coutts ever put in a sliding tackle in a United shirt?

At least Hammond has scored twice, I can't even remember Coutts coming close to scoring. What Is Coutts supposed to be an attacking midfielder or defensive? Surely you need to be one or the other and to me he does neither.

Give me Hammomd over Coutts any day.

No way mate, he - McEverly - did some good stuff today even though he does sometimes play some ridiculous short slow passes that put us in trouble, the other night at Southend he was a liability. So much so i thought he must be carrying a bad injury. After a bad start and despite immense critism from the fans he has turned his season around. Still make some awful decisions at times though.
And yes Hammond put a shift in today more so first half, credit where it's due.

Gave away two unforced free-kicks both in dangerous positions in the first half. Gave away a needless free kick that cost us the first vs. Southend. Didn't pick up a man to let Millwall score (and promptly turned to yell at the rest of the team).

He's an experienced defensive midfielder and those are just the first few things in my head from his last three games.

We can and should look for better. There's a reason we haven't been good enough this year and it isn't because I fail to appreciate the players in our side.

And people wanting to keep McEveley leaves me utterly confused. Made at least half a dozen shocking errors again today. Loves passing the ball to the oppositions midfield. Made that bizarre lob over two players that resulted in conceding a corner near the end. He's okay in the air but his decision making is abysmal and he's always good to give away a goal.

I agree. Coutts legs have gone also...when the ball is near them they look good. They're both technically good players...if it weren't for injuries and age they wouldn't be playing for us...but they are and they struggle with movement.

I bet they look great in the five-asides in training.

I'd say that Coutts also rightly has his fair share of critics on here if you look through the threads.

Personally, I don't want to see either of them in a United shirt next season.
