Outgoing? David Brooks

Think you've answered your own question mate.

I'm not asking, or expecting, McCabe and the Prince to be overly brave or careless, but the reason we've progressed and seem to be able to compete the higher we go must suggest the Board should support the manager. I doubt there's any Blade who expects a stellar signing, but as brilliant as Wilder's signings have been, the higher we go the more it seems we'll have to compete at whatever the going rate is. No doubt Wilder will continue to surprise us with his signings, but I doubt that's an inexhaustible well that he can draw from.
Sorry fella, you've lost me. I thought we were talking about the likelihood of selling Brooks.

We were, as I mentioned, your response answered your own question. We have to learn from the past, apart from that not much else to add.
The next stage is what I said, we're work in progress so no looking back, unless of course it gives some sort of comfort to those who favour that approach.

If Brooks were to go to Everton (or anywhere else) now, it would no doubt be for a lot more than had he left over the summer. Lookman (who still looks overpriced to me) was proven in L1 having played 40+ games which was enough for Everton to take a punt on him. Assuming that Brooks will inevitably leave at some point (unless the unimaginable happened this season of course), I suppose the challenge for Utd will be to optimise his value by balancing his experience (i.e. games played) with the ever decreasing length left on his contract, with the added complexity of the transfer windows. Weighing all that up would probably point to him going in Jan or next summer unless he further extends his contract with Utd.

Absolutely
He needs an improved long term contract (5 years) minimum

We can't stop a Premier League club taking a punt on him and offering him £20,000 a week, but if he had a long term proper grown ups contract it would mean we have more of a bargaining chip to negotiate a better price

Eventually yes but he's not going to go anywhere until Jan at the earliest so I'd bide my time and see how he progresses over the coming months. In terms of ranking of the attacking midfielders at the club. I'd suggest that Brooks is now ahead of Carruthers but still behind Duffy (who is playing superbly). I suspect Brooks' appearances over the next few games may consist of replacing Duffy after 65-70mins or one of the strikers, as he did on Sat.

Of course, the question of what should the club do if Brooks rejects an extended contract on improved terms with Utd may have to be addressed.

He'll be out then - unless CW does a u-turn on only wanting players who want to play for the club!

Just because he turns down an extension to his contract doesn't mean he doesn't want to play for the club. However, I suspect you're right should that be the case. It will be interesting to see how this pans out and a lot will depend on Brooks' agent. I don't know him personally although Brooks comes across as a very down to earth lad. I wonder if together place more emphasis on gaining experience at Champ level or chasing the $ and the likelihood of playing for a Prem U23 side, initially at least.

What wages would you offer him in this 5 year contract?

He's just signed a new contract until 2019

So that means that unless we receive a stupid offer (£12 million plus), then there's no pressure to sell him in the January 18 transfer window. However the Summer of 2018 might mean we face some pressure to give him really big wages (we can hardly afford) or cash in. Maybe his agent might give him sensible advice next year and be happy with our max wage offer instead of chasing the cash.

Option A
Receive £10-£12K a week and be a 1st team regular at SU building your career at a progressive club or

Option B
Do a Jerome Sinclair, get paid £20-£25K a week by a PL club, become an instant millionaire set up financially for life but risk being put in the reserves, stunting a promising career and hardly ever playing 1st team games.

Wonder which of those 2 options Brooks would choose?

You need to ask yourself this Barney, should the past determine your future?

if you have the same constants then probably so

With respect of the football club, we have the same finances, scratching around for funds, the same chairman, albeit looking to step away and the same philosophy, we can't stand in their way etc

I think until the constants change, we're trapped in a circle of sell at the earliest and easiest opportunity when they arise

Reckon it all hinges on which railway station he's left stranded on ?
If it's Sheff I reckon a whip round in t'Howard would supplement his £10 - £12k p/w & convince him to stay

No news here - the same old (made up) rumours getting bounced about by utterly shit websites/lazy journalists.

How much is delli alli worth now ? 20 Mill or get lost

Alli's 15 months older than Brooks and has 21 England caps, plus 30 goals in 74 Premier League games. As good as he undoubtedly is and can be, Brooks hasn't yet started a league game. Alli played 60-odd times for MK before going to Spurs for £5m. Either way, I'm not sure they're comparable :)

I don't know, It's a tricky one, if we give him too much he might get into a comfort zone
Don't give him enough and he might be off at the first sign of a good offer.

Maybe a five year deal that gives him a reasonable salary improvement in year one whilst he's still learning, but an automatically improved salary for the remaining 4 years after he's proven himself a little more. Obviously a sizeable increase should we get to the Prem during that time.

Not sure if he'd accept such a deal, but I do think if a young player is earning £8,000 - £10,000 a week and playing regularly it goes a long way towards fighting a £15,000 - £20,000 a week offer from a Premier League club when a player knows he is going to be a reserve for a long time and perhaps forgotten about altogether.

If brooks scored 10-15 this season thats how much we should be asking for atleast

Still this thread goes on about selling Brooksy,we have a player who if looked after properly ( and we will ) will help propelled us back to the premier league.
He's a late developers and still needs carefully handling.
According to this thread we are selling him,Wilder knows we have a really good player on our hands and if the time comes and an offer comes in Wilder will not let him go cheaply.
Enjoy him as talent like his is rare,if and when he goes it will be for big bucks.,as I said earlier we can go all the way with him and the squad members, let's enjoy the ride and not talk about selling him.
He seems happy enough let him be

Agree with that.

This is a thread that is borne out of fear. There's no substance in it whatsoever. The only rumours that have ever surfaced about the possibility of a Brooks sale came from that crappy website HITC/Football League World. They speculated Everton might be interested in him (based on the fact that they'd taken DCL from us previously). Everton have never come sniffing for him at all and long may that continue.

I've no doubt we'll sell him one day - but hopefully not for a long time to come.

Hopefully Brooks will be a Premiership player and hopefully with us, that would be best for all parties and we could for once watch a young and great prospect flourish with his home club :)

The bad news I've heard is 3 to go in January, Brooks, fleck and one other . From a fitness coach at the club. Then came out with the caveat of depending on league position so covering himself. Not mcabes doin either apparently

The bad news I've heard is that some people like to make up absolute shit on The rumour board

Probably Jack O’Connell is the third, then it’s everyone who has signed a 4 year contract in the last few weeks.

lol, so who's doing exactly is it then, when the board have already acknowledged there's a contingency fund for Jan?

If selling Brooks meant Bringing in swift woods and a quality striker is say do it
We got Fleck and Duffy for nothing.
We don't need to sell our best players to replace them with mercenaries.
Wilder will either pluck a rough diamond from somewhere or somebody will step up.
Losing Adam's and Lewin potentially made us stronger but losing Maguire and Walker set us back years.
I think we will spend in January AND keep Brooks.
