David Brooks, we're an honest club!

You feel contact you go down.

There was contact.

Minimal.

But contact nonetheless.

I presume your point is that it makes it ok as there was the slightest of contact?
Still simulations, still cheating. Had we got a penalty and scored from such a dive then would all be fine?
Personally I don’t like it but as others have said it appears to be part of the modern game.

It wasn't a foul, but I don't think it was a dive either. Looked to me like his trailing foot caught the other player's foot and he went over.

I wasn't there so can't comment on whether he was diving or not in this instance. However, this is a good observation from Flawed . Brooks has in his repertoire of tricks this one where he appears to have overrun the ball then drags it back with his trailing foot. Its a bit like the Currie shuffle but not quite. I've noticed a couple of times before where he's done this and appeared to receive a late hack but its the defender being bamboozled rather than an intentional foul. Its certainly not him taking a dive.

Before we go all holier than thou on this remember Jack Lester and Michael Brown? They won us a few penalties and free kicks which we scored from after they “drew the foul” which I believe it’s what it is called.

I give you “intent”. Sometimes you don’t even have to touch someone to concede fouls.

And yes, it is bollocks. But play the game. We would rightly lambast opponents for it. But you know what, this club has had a soft underbelly for a lot longer than it should have. If you can’t beat em....

Utter bollox, it’s not playing the game, it’s cheating.

I've read a few comments and it sounds like he has gone down easily, which is a shme if true, but he is also a very lightweight palyer.
With all his flair plays he has been getting clipped alot and going down winning freekicks, it is part of his game to trick the opponents players into fouling him, but we don't want him to start trying to trick officials. I don't really know, I do hate players who go down to easy but I do love seeing Brooks on the ball winning freekicks ect.

A

Against the pigs when he got the ball on the touch line he was definitely pushed, he didn't go down but showed great skill with the nutmeg so he has it in him to stay on his feet.

He did go down. Then he got back up again

Take it no-one would have celebrated the penalty if it had been given & scored then? Oh, right. Thought so.

Funny enough, he was one of your players that I was saying to my uncle and cousin that in the past Hurlock, Stevens, Muscat, Rae or Dennis Wise would have really wound up and therefore taken out of the game.

Talented, but a right whinger.

Aye, might have just missed it, but I really don't remember this sort of fuss when Samir's dive led to the penalty v Bolton last year.

(There again, the salt that was rubbed into Bolton wounds was pretty funny)

he does need to clap on a bit of weight.

I totally disagree. It's the last thing he needs. His lightness on his feet, his ability to twist and turn are what set him apart and "clapping on weight" would detract from that.

Che Adams clearly did some fairly serious weight-training the summer after he burst on the scene and became more bulked-up as a result. I don't think he improved for it at all. Quite the opposite, for me.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be another example of a player who, for all his achievements, has never quite fulfilled his early promise with Southampton. He clearly did a lot of work with weights and again I think that might have had something to do with it.

Brooks needs more experience and coaching. He doesn't need to put on weight.

Having watched the likes of Sanchez roll around mutiple times to get a player booked then I reckon its a free for all.

Obviously when our lads have a go at some gamesmanship they get booked. When the likes of fucking Norwich do it the ref doesn't give a shit.

I don't agree with Brooks for diving but refs need to get their bloody act together.

If it was a foul then it was outside box, so it would have been a free kick anyway.

He will when the 5 players trying to kill him fuck off.

These five ?

I would have sat in my seat shaking my head and tut tutting :). Seriously. OK I would have celebrated, but don't you think the way to tackle diving in the game is for all clubs to be honest when their player is the culprit?
Edit, that was replying to your other comment

Sad that so many are fine with cheating. If we score from it I’ll cheer because it means we’ve scored. It’s still possible to feel slightly embarrassed or ashamed by how we score. It should be kicked out of the game but never will be - just how useful has the Adkins panel been? Thus far isn’t it 2 players have received retrospective bans? Aye. Effective. Fucking hate the way football still has this issue and it’s shameful so many accept it or try and swing it the other way; i.e “would you refuse to celebrate”... fuck off and stop making exceptions because he’s our player. Any player caught simulating should be fined straight away. Its a shame there’s no honesty in what can be a great sport.

So you wouldn’t celebrate?

Looked in the box to me

Saw the incident yesterday from our end, looked like a dive and several in other games where it looked like a puff of wind blew him over. He' s building an unnecessary reputation with refs whereby even if a JCB takes him out the refs will have doubts and wave play on. Needs to stay on his feet and stop fouling people in daft places, his weak pass shot from the penalty spot after basham set him up was poor, needs to build some strength and do the basics better and get involved more and put the overly fancy and petulant stuff on hold for a while .

Sadly simulation is now part of the game.

I don't like it one bit, just like I hate feigning injury late in the game to be 'professional.'

Modem football is hypocritical in the extreme and we're not immune as a team.

Sorry Davalon but labelling it simulation ( not having a go at you) is also a sad symptom of the modern game. It’s diving, or just plain cheating so why can’t we just call it that?
Whilst I’m at it, let’s call linesmen linesmen because they never seem to assist the referee. They call an offside, stand with their flag raised to show where the free kick should be taken from then just let it be taken from wherever the taker wants to take it from instead of waving their flag to alert the ref.
It gets on my tits anyway.

Gets on mine too mate but simulation isn't a word to hide behind imho.

Football has become the most hypocritical sport on the planet for me. Most go mad at other teams cheating but are happy for their own to do it.

Diving in the box is still seen as out of order yet feigning injury to waste time at the death is seen as 'professional.'

Too many pundits and pros happy to call cheating 'getting an advantage' or 'doing what you can for the team.' Yet whilst a lot of it gets on my wick, I've done enough ungentlemanly play myself in my time, with the exception of diving and faking injury.

Extremely talented player with endless potential but very sulky and bad tempered when it doesn't go his way on the pitch.
