CONFIRMED David Brooks to Bournemouth

£12m is not silly money.

Not when, as has been pointed out, Mr Madine went for £6m and Mr Rhodes went for £9m+.

I cannot get my head around why we do not put our foot down.

I agree that Wilder should be the one dictating, and he will be, but comparatively we never seem to get a good deal.

As for the 'untried and untested', the kid is by far and away the hottest prospect to come from our Academy, and many others, in terms of footballing ability. He didn't get the games because Duffy was a far more effective player in our system.

See, if this is true, I wouldn't mind if we hadn't been listening to Wilder reassuring us that the players in his plans are safe and that no-one wants to go.

You could say maybe he wasn't in his plans because he knew he was going to sacrifice him for the moolah, but it's still a kick in the bollocks for us. Wilder obviously knows best and we don't know what he's dealing with behind the scenes but fuck me this will take the sheen off the start of the season. As will the dodgy Photoshop job if he's in the shirt promo stuff haha.. whose head can they stick on Brooks? Who's small enough? Slater?
 
Its a sad state of affairs that we can't finance the deals we want AND keep hold of our most promising player, but that's the lake we are fishing in I suppose.

I personally think anything shy of 20 mill is an awful deal, not because I think he's worth that, but because of the money been thrown around by PL clubs these days.
 
"Well over £10m"... what was the initial bid earlier this summer? £12m? Indicates it'll be much closer to £15m than £10m to me - a fair reflection of his current value in my eyes.

Let's not get carried away... Chris will insist on a good sell-on clause, he's not daft. We haven't been robbed (this time). McCabe isn't on a plane to Belgium as we speak cradling a bulging bag of cash.

It's a crying shame that we can't hold on to Brooks for longer, as I really think he's a special talent. But at the same time I'm glad we aren't a club that will stand in a player's way. What kind of message does that send out to promising youngsters coming through our academy, or prospective signings? We won't get them through the door to begin with. Agents would steer players clear of us if they thought we would hold them back. Clearly he wants the move, and who can blame him? This is the modern game, better to embrace it than throw a tantrum when it's not to your liking.

Until such a time as we are back in the Premier league, and as long as we get fair money, I'll wish them all the best and look on proudly as they forge a career further up the footballing pyramid.

Not rocket science is it? If Bournemouth hadn’t come in with a £12m bid, but Worksop Town had bid £100, would that be an accurate representation of David Brooks’ worth?

No one appears to have bid more. How can we maximise that?
 

People asking where the 15 and 20 million bids are... Were not going to get them if we accept 12 the first time it's offered are we?

We know he's hot property. Accepting the 1st bid that comes in is lucadris. If we want the most value for money, tell Bournemouth to fuck off, publically, and to come back with a 'much improved' offer. Alert other clubs & get a bidding war started if we're desperate to sell.

No. But clubs would pay £100 for him. No ones throwing £20m or anything near as things stand.

Hugely open, hypothetical questions don't really deserve concrete answers.

I'd want to strengthen and keep him. If it wasn't possible to strengthen adequately without selling him then I'd consider it - but no fucking way would I accept the first poor offer before we even reach July.

We don't know this is the first bid to be fair do we mate? Its not like United have to come out and say they've knocked back bids.

Is there a £13m bid?

I hope we can start a bidding war. We need bidders though. Let's hope there's at least another one out there.

Sorry mate, I'd missed that post due to the meltdown, I'd say, alright. No worries. Loans and see what I get from the outgoings. Not state he's staying as we're "building a team around him" as for backing himself massively. 14 million is peanuts these days. Let's be honest.
 
A few facts. David Brooks is secure on a long term contract by Sheffield United. Our manager has said he is very happy with his increased budget, and that he is under no pressure to sell our better players. Also, that if his transfer policy is interfered with by the board he will walk.If David Brooks is sold it will be Chris Wilder's doing; unless he walks.
Taking all that into account, I'd ask Wilder these questions:

Is this the right time to sell to maximise the potential transfer fee?

If so, how far do you think Brooks can go in the game?

With non parachute payment club's paying over 10 million for players, what makes you think you can improve the quality of the squad when you are selling your best players for roughly that amount?
