Out of the 11 matches remaining, 7 of our fixtures are against the 7 teams directly above the drop zone.

For us to stay up it realistically has to be one of Soton, Burnley, Brighton or Newcastle to take our place.

Southampton are on a terrible run, Newcastle are generally poor and Brighton have started looking like they're as cursed as we are with VAR and 50/50s...

If we can start with a win against the Saints on Saturday and go on to beat the three teams directly above the relegation zone, then it puts us on 26 points.

Meaning it effectively comes down to the three games against Palace, Wolves and Leeds, which are all far from predetermined if the team can keep fighting like they did tonight.

If we can get even 4 points from those three fixtures, which I think is possible, then it starts to look tasty.

Any unexpected points against...

Leicester (showed tonight they're capable of dropping points)

Spurs (hit and miss)

Arsenal (also hit and miss)

and Everton (will be tough imo) are all a bonus...but not essential.

Big ask like, but it is possible.

You're right about Southampton being in terrible form.. 1 win in last 10 including a 9-0 thumping by Manure and losing to 10 man Newcastle.

We should be confident going into that game, win that and who knows what can happen

Feel free to absolutely slate me for this comment, but I’ll be borderline annoyed if we stay up now. For a start we haven’t been anywhere near good enough, but more importantly, I’m excited for proper football. 3pm Saturday kick offs without VAR. No ridiculous top 4 coverage. Two football teams playing against each other, rather than two brands facing off. I feel like I’m watching Coca Cola vs Starbucks coffee at times in this league. No more weird Ghanaians commenting on our Facebook page. I can’t really believe I’m saying that, because we need to strive to be as successful as possible, but this isn’t football we’re watching here.

It’s not football without a weird Ghanaian

I’m not bothered about going down, I’ve resigned myself to that fate, but I’d love it if we could go down fighting, get more of the old Wilder we love back and embarrass a few clubs on the way. Kind of like when a pissed-up auntie gets escorted from the wedding reception by an embarrassed member of the family and slags off various other guests on the way.

We didn’t want our dream or we would have spent money in January to give us a chance.

So when we go down will you be hoping that we miss out on the top 6?

Your optimism? Is it available to buy online?

So you would be quite happy for us to be a championship club and gradually go into
obscurity cus that's what you are saying.
If we want to be at the top table and I agree we need to add a lot more nous to our football we have to take all the things we dont like on board.
Easier to change things when part of it than look in from the outside with a bit of envy.
It will be great kicking off at 3-00 again and hopefully getting back to winning more matches ,the downside as I say is obscurity and fighting to stay afloat with money at a premium.
I gave up on this season months ago ! everytime we win one I start dreaming of the great escape (Bassett style) crazy in it but that's life of a blade.
Season not over yet and we still have a big cuptie to come.

As I said to a mate some months ago "finishing 3rd from bottom will be a good result for us this season".
He replied "Don't you mean 4th from bottom?"
"No!" I replied

I posted last night that I won't miss this corrupt league next season, including VAR and it's broadcaster ruled approach to kick off times. If the highly improbable was to happen, and we could somehow win 3 or 4 in a row suddenly, then I would get reyt giddy about staying up.

Basically, I am a fickle barsteward.

It won't happen though, we don't score enough goals, or have the players fit to sustain a run. We will eek out a few more wins though, and it will be a semi respectable finish.

If anything, I could see us shocking the world in the cup, rather than in the league.

I mean, I wouldn't put it passed this club to go on a glorious run, be 3 points and goal difference clear come the final game and then manage to get relegated....
This is just too true 🤣 win the next 10, look safe, then lose the last 8 to throw it away 😅

If you reckon we can beat Chelsea, City, Leicester and/or Man U...

...but not Newcastle, Brighton and Palace...

...surely it's not me who's being the optimistic one? 😅

Problem we have is surely injuries? With Jags suspended for next game and JOC, Egan, Bash, Robinson all long term injuries, we only have Amps and Bryan as CBs. Enda may be roped in but we will be very vulnerable in the air. However the footballing Gods who have seemingly been against us all season with injuries, shit VAR decisions, and other vagaries may have just turned in our favour. If that is right then anything is possible.

Some folk seem to be so invested in being miserable that they simply won't listen to any positivity at all, and will fight like beavers for their right to be a sad bastard.

I really feel for some of your marriages 😅

Every time we win I’m happy but part of me is also pissed off because I think, well if we’d just played like that against Fulham or Burnley or in any number of other winnable games, we’d be well in with a fighting chance.

I’ve never known a team be so out of their depth yet not a million miles away from one week to the next. Bloody frustrating.

That’s the Blades way, it will never change......and there’s nothing you can do about it 🤣

Mi cousin said yesterday that it would be the most Sheffield United thing ever if we pulled off the greatest escape and won the FA Cup but couldn't have any fans there...

...I reckon THE MOST Sheff Utd thing would be to get to the final and get to safety, just to get relegated on the last day and lose 8-0 to Bournemouth in the cup final 🤣
