Current point rate, where will we finish?

I'll still take 17th at this stage despite me believing we can still finish above our current position.

It may sound negative and would mean a bad end to the season in results terms but largely the same players have put a right shift in so far.

Last season showed we have staying power but a few injuries and suspensions leading to a run of defeats and all of sudden you're looking down not up.

Conversely if everyone stays fit and this month sees a couple of first team additions, then I can see us possibly bettering our current points per game total.

Using the current point rate of 1.375 we will finish on a creditable 52 points around 9th in the table.

More importantly that gives us prize money of £23.1 million as opposed to £7.7 million for 17th, a very handy additional £15 million.

£15mill that will certainly come in handy for one of the following for an extra seasons wages/fees/ground and training ground improvements

I thought bottom team got £120m?

I reckon we'll slip a bit and finish 11th or 12th. I can see Arsenal and Everton moving above us and possibly Palace.

It's such a weird league. You could argue that Palace, Burnley, Newcastle and Southampton have had bad seasons but they're all within 3 points of us.

Last season the prize money ranged from 150 million if you finished top and 100 million if you finished bottom of the League.
A mid table finish earned about 120 million.
Every single position higher up the table earns you more money......
so even if you know you’re staying up every game towards the end of the season is still really important.

Its quite amazing to think wining the EFL cup wins 500K prize money....winning the FA cup worth 2 million prize money.
Where as winning a single game at the end of the PL might move you up 2 or 3 places and be worth 10 million.
No wonder many PL show little interest in the cups....all the money comes from doing well in the PL.

exactly our last game against Southampton could potentially be worth 5-7 million if a big group of teams are tight on points.

I have to admit, I'm still looking down rather up, 10 points currently from 18th, we know from bitter experience that isn't enough. I always felt that February would be a key month with home games against Bournemouth and Brighton and 'winnable' away games at Palace and Villa. Obviously they are all now fighting for their lives but even 6 points from those would put us on 39 at the end of February. Even so I reckon we can get 50+ and a top half finish quite comfortably.

I've said top 10 since day 1, I have a sneaking suspicion we could get 5th but top 10 is still excellent.

New tv deal this year and with
League positions having a higher % of money than ever before.

About 2 million quid extra for every higher league place.

Yeah, I’m hoping we’re more or less safe by the end of February. It would be nice to have a few games that aren’t vital. For the last few seasons we’ve gone into the end of the season needing to win, to either secure promotion or a play-off position.

I'll go for a further 21 points from our remaining fixtures, putting us on 54 and finishing 7th-8th

Your talking mid 60’s point wise to get top 4 I think. Aim for that next season and settle for Europa this season eh? Let’s ease our way into the European elite !!

I think if we recruit wisely this jan, which is very very likely. Then we have more consistency than Man U, Spurs and Chelsea.

Leicester are wobbling a bit and could drop out of the top four altogether if they’re not careful. Which would be a surprise if they did.

Wolves will kick on and I can see them getting 3rd.

Which leaves 4th between Leicester, Chelsea, ourselves and Arsenal as they dark horses

Have I drifted on to Owlstalk, talk about deluded. There's 42 points to play for and were 10 points off 3rd from bottom, will we get dragged into it? I certainly hope not but were struggling to score and if that continues then who knows. Sorry if this sounds defeatist, just trying to bring a bit of realism to the debate as Villa, Bournemouth, Palace and Norwich will be fighting for their lives and will be really tough games.

This. The concept of finishing 4th is hilarious.

I don’t think we’ll finish 4th or really even come close but we’re closer to Chelsea than we are to Bournemouth and have just come through our toughest part of the season relatively unscathed. To me it’s more hilarious that some are still fretting about relegation when we’re sitting in 8th and just one point off 5th!
