Imperial Russian stout is style of beer brewed for well over 100 years (Russia stopped being an empire 101 years ago!) by a number of British brewers. It's a style of beer. As for beers named after the brewery founder, I believe that Messrs Ward, Stones, Tenant, Bentley, Whitbread, Boddington etc, are long gone, as are their underwhelming ales.

Sadly you can still purchase something passed off as Wards, and not much better is Stones. Why they pissed about making it bright is a mystery.

Is Darleys still around? Anyone?

Been to the Mikeller Bars in Copenhagen, San Francisco and Los Angeles (both of the latter cities have great brew pubs and beer bars these days).

If you were unaware Mikkeler opened up in London about 2 months ago, bottom of Hackney Road, 10 minute walk from Liverpool St. Just before Xmas had 9 Tool beers on as well. Now, I kid you not it has been opened up in partnership with Rick Astley, yes THE Rick Astley.. he’s a smart young man and very far from the CAMRA Stereotype presented by some on here.

Not far away is The Sun that specialises in Poitine or Pocheen. Now that is fire water...

My drinking years In summary

9-13 - occasional glass of ‘white wine’ on Christmas Day
13-16 - Special Red Cider, 20/20, occasional cheap lager purchased from an offy with no need to provide ID on Buchanan Road
16-29 - Lager mainly occasionally mixed with cider and black - didn’t care which brand - loads of Vodka thrown in as well
30-36 - the Cider years mainly shite like Strongbow
37 onwards - real ale- can’t stand drinking lager /cider anymore, occasional nip of whiskey when I visit Edinburgh- have also developed a taste for a nice Red Wine and don’t mind the occasional white.

You'd most likely be drinking whisky in Edinburgh rather than whiskey.

7-13 - sips of wine with accompanying face pulling, alcopops in my teens.

13-18 - booze in the bushes, anything we could get our hands on, absinthe to Whiskey. Mostly lager from a petrol station at the bottom of Station Road.

18-21 - Real ale if in a pub, occasionally wine depending on who I'm with. Whatever is in front of me at a party.

21-23 - Vegetarian due to relationship, grim times as most beer has cow in it. Old Rosie, Strongbow. I can barely drink cider now, bad memories.

23 to now - real ale/stout in one of Sheffield's many quality pubs. Guinness in any of Sheffield's not quality pubs.

Think it all depends on your locals as you're growing up. My local was the Mossbrook, so they sold decent stuff when I started going. They've changed ownership now unfortunately and it's a bit crap.

Ah! Darley’s Of Thaaaaaarne!
Ah, Darley's! Was owned by Vaux in Sunderland, who also owned Wards. At the risk of a metaphorical thumping, Darley's was much better beer than Wards on account of it not smelling like puke! Vaux Samson was better than either, on account of it being "really strong" - about 4.5%!!! Eeee, them wo' days!!
