Could we go the season unbeaten in League One?

I appreciate what you are saying, but the recognised convention is to record these games as draws and, according to that convention, we have a 22 game unbeaten record.

I'll bet you go to all those "conventions" Dazzler, don't you :)

Is that why England are ranked way above where we all think they should be - because we keep LOSING on penalty shoot outs? What a complete set of rankers, eh?

Indeed. The game you are thinking of is the 94 final between Italy and Brazil and if you look at Italy's and Brazil's cumulative World Cup records, you will see that game is recorded as a draw.

So they both won the World Cup. Cool. I always got a different impression.

Recognised convention, so thats you, Peter Ndlovu and some geeks that think they know what they're on about....

I'll answer this after the Stevenage game. Swindon, MK & Stevenage are mega tough games, come through them undefeated and we may be on to something.

I think <5 defeats is realistic

We haven't hit our best yet... could we go unbeaten?

In a word, no - in two words, no chance - in three words, no bloody chance - in four words, not a bloody chance - in five words, hell will freeze over first - in six words, you must be bloody crackers mate.

It's a bit quiet today.

George

Promotion is our aim, being undefeated would be a millstone around our necks that would detract from our focus. I don't ever want us to lose a game but all this talk of going unbeaten througout a season is ridiculous. Have the conversation once we have got promoted for sure.

Unless of course we are aiming for another first. The first team ever to go through a season undefeated and not get promoted. A new and creative way of fucking things up Grecian?

NO, and this sounds like a ''vile'' thread what's next calling every body in this league tinpot club everyone raises there game when they play us because of our history and who we are, blah blah blah still think we'll go up and neck and neck with that toytown tramp.

Well you do keep coming up with the same wrong facts...I'm going to call you the "king of wrong"

Once again, we've been beaten twice - once in the Play Off final and once in the League Cup, so we're not even unbeaten this season... Lets not try and grasp onto these things by deleting defeats to suit your argument

When I say we are on a 17 consecutive league game unbeaten run it is not my opinion it is a fact.

I don't really see what you're problem is.

Deary me, Your fact can't possibly right can it when WE all know that we've lost two games...

I don't have a problem with it, but it just makes you look daft as you try to cling onto the hope that we're breaking a record by ignoring the TWO defeats we've had.

Huddersfield were an embarassment when they did it.

Huddersfield were an embarassment when they did it.

1. Huddersfield lost their playoff game. We drew and lost on penalties. There is a difference.

2. United's other defeat was on penalties after a drawn cup match.

2. Like a cup game, a playoff game is not a normal league game. It was perfectly legit of Huddersfield to say they had an unbeaten run of x league games, just as ours is currently 17 league games unbeaten.

Its far more simple than that. Did we or did we not lose the tie in:

a) The Play Off final
b) the Burton Cup game

If the answer to one or both is that we lost, then we cannot possibly be undefeated...

We're making fools of ourselves if we ignore these games to suit our argument

Swiss, Ndlovu is arguing that we are unbeaten in the league for 17 games. This is true. Burton and Huddersfield were not league games. Do you not agree with this? No, I'll rephrase - how can you not agree with this?

Arsenal lost cup ties during their "invincibles" season. They still went unbeaten in the league. I do not see a difference.

The cup game fair enough, but the Play off games (as I stated on a previous thread a few weeks ago) is, according to the FL rules, a FL sanctioned game...

It does not appear in the league tables and appearances and goals in those games are not recorded as league appearance and goals. Football league sanctioned or not, it is something different.

It matters not because the club record is 22 league games unbeaten and if we go 6 more without defeat I will be stunned.

On 5th October 1993 we beat Blackpool 2-0 at the Lane in the League Cup 2nd round 2nd leg. Unfortunately, we had lost the first leg 0-3, so we lost the tie. We had drawn our league game prior to the 2-0 Blackpool game and then drew the next 3 before we lost.

On your criteria, our unbeaten run then was 3 games rather than 5, as despite the 2-0 win on the night, we lost the Blackpool tie.

If its FL league sanctioned as part of the season fixtures then surely its not just something different when the winner goes up the loser doesn't

Personally I don't like the play offs as I think the 3rd place should just go up, but its part of the rules and therefore must surely count.

Ha ha I wanted to avoid using the word game, used tie instead, but thanks for going back through the ages on this one...

Unbeaten games and unbeaten league games are two different things. Traditionally league games are those in the fixture list published in August, ending after 46 games for us!

Anyway, bollocks to that, am I getting a full English or that 'continental' crap Raul?

When we're comparing unbeaten records with United teams from 100+ years ago, you surely have to go by the score at full time. They didn't have extra time and penalties until the 1980's.
Who is to say that some of these old teams who drew cup matches wouldn't have then lost in extra time or on penalties?

Personally, I've never counted defeats on penalties as "proper" defeats. It's just a lottery.

Those who say that we have now equalled the unbeaten run record, not everyone will agree with this

If we dont lose any of the 7 league games then we have equalled the unbeaten record in the league, everyone will agree with that

I used the evidence on here to get my winnings on Arsenal last night from William Hills ,they wouldnt pay up .

I'll say it again.

We are currently on a 17 game consecutive LEAGUE unbeaten run.

I'll say it again.

No need to say it again, we've lost a league sanctioned game and we've lost a league cup, if we lose in November we can ignore any November defeats on our unbeaten run...

I get it nuddy, you want us to be less shite than we are by ignoring the defeats.... It's like sports day where nobody loses and fat kids being told its glandular...
