Postpone, play behind closed doors or carry on?

Telegraph reporting one side has players being tested as three have shown signs of having it.

Then they will have to check on every team they have played against for last two weeks if they are positive. And so on.

Sounds like it might be Leicester

Apparently Rodgers has confirmed Leicester players have got it.

That’s that then, all that hard work for nought. I hope we have our insurance ducks in a row cos we won’t receive our Premier League payments for this season.

I'd be okay with them playing games behind closed doors as long as there was still an atmosphere. Perhaps they could relay the crowd noise from one of the many thousands of pubs where fans will be packed together watching the game?

And that would be the end of the season right there.

sigh

Newcastle haven't played Leicester recently and neither have Arsenal, so I don't see any reason why these two matches can't go ahead as things stand? Whether they'd be behind closed doors or with a crowd, that's for the powers that be to decide.

To be honest, I more meant when players start to get CV, it will push the decision towards ending the season (via the slow death of putting it on hold). I don't think they'd call it off right now.

There will be no pubs showing games mate but..... there are enough Wendy fans in the world to supply the entire football pyramid with support.

On a more serious note; are folk on here (and elsewhere) going to stop beating the 'not as bad as the flu' drum in say 4 weeks time? I think they may!

Are the PL going to breach their lucrative contracts with BEIN, DAZN, NBC etc? I doubt it. And if no fans are allowed in the stadium plenty will gather to watch the games - if not on legal, then on dodgy streams

It was quoted earlier from the Times: So far the government has followed medical advice that has insisted the congregation of large crowds at outdoor events is not dangerous.
Hamburg Blade I know you have strongly held views on this. But, whenever I see the sort of quotes you attribute to The Times, I read it differently. I read.....
the congregation of large crowds at outdoor events is not dangerous AT THE MOMENT, but in such a volatile set of circumstances, that might change at any moment.

Please tell me you get that, even if you don't agree with it. If everyone in the population has CoronaVirus except you, tell me you won't be dragging that quote out then. It used to be 1 case in 7.5 Billion people. That's changed......

Of course, the advice as per The Times is correct now. And football continues. If that advice changes, and it is dangerous, then football will stop.

Just heard that a Championship club has 3 academy players confirmed with the virus. Not hit the media yet but expect club to cancel their ‘high profile’ game this weekend.

Not as bad as the swine flu you get in S6.

One option is to provide the games for free-to-air viewing therefor mass gatherings can be avoided. The Government have already met with the league bodies and anything is possible. Games would be played behind closed doors. This is all based on assumption and possible solutions. Who knows for now?

Love the way people say, 'it's only the elderly, weak and those close to death anyway who are at risk' as if that's alright.

I'm 25, but have bad asthma and a weak immune system. I would like to report I feel it'd be a reyt tragedy if I died now after 6 years of LG1 - I've not found my peace, inevitably waiting for the end.
Well mate that is typical of today. As long as it won't effect them why should they be bothered.Hope you keep well son.

I do wonder what people think they're proving when they make that comparison with the flu. It's not as bad so...we should just let it spread?

The flu has been around for thousands of years. It infects a billion people every year. It cannot be contained. This new virus seems to spread somewhat less quickly and is just getting started. So we can contain and potentially eliminate it altogether, if we take decisive action now.

Exactly. The seasonal flu does have a vaccine that will save lives - Covid-19....
